He was also institutionalized by his parents in the movie. I don't think they institutionalized kids (not even in the 80s) for sadness.

Would be nice if the Power Glove actually worked the way it was advertised. I've always thought that and R.O.B. were Nintendo's biggest ripoffs ever.

It sounds like I am the only one to live up to this stereotype. Straight A's in math my whole life without even trying. In engineering college I got straight A's in math and I didn't even buy some of the textbooks, I perceived them to be a waste of money.

My mom bought me a rubics cube when I was 10. She figured with my obssesive personality, it would keep me out of her way for weeks. I solved it in 2 hours and brought it back. I think she cried. But she ultimatley got her way because the obssesion became how fast can I solve it, which was under a minute.

Yeah I had a PowerGlove....I don't think I EVER got it to work because I didn't realize it required you to put in a code for each game lol.

VirtuaBoy was probably the biggest ripoff though.

Yeah, I hated how the Power Glove commercial had the kid playing Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!, throwing all these hooks and uppercuts, when what you really have to do is more like making sure you twitch the correct finger the precise number of millimeters in the right direction and such.

I played Mario Clash for Virtual Boy, and it was somewhat fun, but the console definitely wouldn't have been worth buying.

And, I love AVGN. He's hilarious.

I am also much stronger in the social sciences than I am in the hard sciences. Because I was reading and knew all my math facts as a preschooler, my parents attributed my "poor" grades in biology and chemistry to lack of discipline and falling behind from being placed in special ed for emotionally disturbed kids from grades 1-8 (with two unsuccessful attempts at mainstreaming).

I did some research on the internet and self diagnosed with nonverbal learning disability (referred to as NLD) Then when I went in for AS testing last year, the psychologist said I do NOT have NLD after all. I do not have any problems with arithmetic but can't grasp higher algebra, let alone calculus.

In any case, my NT is the math/computer genius in the family and I am barely computer literate. It's so unfair that he got both the social skills and the math skills (he was always one of the most popular kids in his grade and he now works as an engineer). I'm the one who's underemployed and now trying to find retrain for a new career (going to a professional career counselor who specializes in AS adults now).

She said my math skills were strong enough to become an accounting clerk so I'm considering that but at the same time looking at careers that involve more writing and research as well.

I'm sick of the myth that all AS people are math geniuses.

A hand counts as half a partner, since they're half as good. And, I must say, rather handy.
