If I'm going out alone, I tend to have either earplugs or earphones in for almost the whole time. It greatly reduces the risk of stress, especially when I'm going out to the city. When I'm out with other people, on the other hand, I tend to do away with earplugs and earphones for the sake of communication, and therefore have to put my hands over my ears a few times. :P

I've never worn sunglasses outdoors as a means of easing sensory issues, though the idea has been suggested...

It's funny but I've worn prescription sunglasses habitually since I was 12 or 13. I've always been sensitive to sunlight and now I guess I know why! I'm always getting comments about wearing them after the sun has gone behind clouds etc. Would be nice if some people would mind their own business, eh;)?

I wear ear buds to pevent Sensory issues with stuff like old Car brakes and stuff like that and also when I do go to the mcdonalds up were I live they have 2 devices in the children area that have ultra sonic sound to prevent insects since the playground is no enclosed in a building. I do listen to music with them. I don't wear sun galsses because I don't have a sensory issue with that with the bright sun my eyes just have to adjust.

I wear headphones constantly when I'm out on the street or taking the bus. I can't wear ear buds because the feeling of something in my ear drives me crazy, but headphones are all right.

If I'm with people, I won't wear headphones because it's been suggested to me that it's rude. :P But usually I'm busing to and from school by myself so I'll wear headphones.

I don't wear sunglasses unless I'm going to be outside in one place for a long time. Otherwise I can handle a quick walk here and there.

I DO wear headphones everywhere I go though. I get very anxious and irritated without them. I don't wear them when walking with other people though cuz that would be rude.

I wear earplugs if I go out to a bar or a club, or to the movies, cuz it is simply too loud for me.

I wear sunglasses all the time outdoors.
But, that's hardly out of the ordinary at these Latitudes. 8)

I also wear earphones when I go somewhere in public by myself. I try to avoid doing it if I'm with someone, because I don't want to be rude. But if I'm off at the grocery store by myself, I keep on the earphones. It helps shut out the chaos and noise and distracting social input. It really is a lifesaver. A number of times before, I've gotten helplessly paralyzed by sensory-overload-anxiety in big box stores when I wasn't able to shut that stuff out.

My eyes are pretty sensitive, so I wear sunglasses pretty often, whether the day is sunny or cloudy- bright.
I have worn them indoors, too, if the lighting is too bright. 8)

neither, but after reading this, I might start. Sun usually doesnt bother me unless it is sunset or dawn when the sun is low in the sky and blinding me. I however get overwhelmed by industrial lights and any flickering, or any light that is about to go out. I hate strobes the makes me feel really weird...of course I have seizures too, so strobes are off limits to me. Also light between trees while driving really bothers me.

As far as sound goes....I dont like people talking all at once, unexpected sounds, the kind of sounds is a crowd just bring me to shut down almost every time. High pitched sounds are evil.... I dont care how cute your kid is.

I dont like touch unless I am prepared for it.

I wear sunglasses most of the time when I'm outside, unless it's really dark. I use earplugs on the transit. For the rest of the time, if I'm alone, I listen to my music. It does help with the anxiety as the sound of the music is more predictable than external noises, but I have found that it could add to my sensory overload sometimes. So it's a tradeoff.

Yeah earplugs I wear 24/7 (I only take them out to clean them or change them)

I wear headphones when I'm on my own, with brown noise ( white noise is too incremental). Even when sleeping.

Erm sunglasses, no. I try to avoid UV lights. :)

All the time, they serve a double function. Sunglasses help shield me from bright light and look cool. Headphones help me overpower the external noises with music that im in control of. And look cool too.

I wear blue tinted glasses to cut down on the evil fluorescent lights, and I wear earplugs or headphones a lot of the time when I go out. Never go anywhere without earplugs in my pocket.

I think I'd like to use sunglasses, but I hate wearing them because they touch my ears <_< I guess I'm just too sensitive that way...

I hate noise. I don't even listen to music in the car most of the time. Noise is very distracting and sometimes it feels like it can take over my brain.
However, my first two years of college, wearing headphones was the only was I survived. Because noise is so all-encompassing, I could listen to music loudly and drown out my discomfort in being in crowds and such.

I don't really wear sunglasses because they always break and I don't want to go to the store to get some more.

I wear sunglasses a lot even when it's cloudy, because people don't look at me as much when my eyes are hidden behind sunglasses. Also my ''moody expression'' on my face doesn't show so much when I wear sunglasses. So that's why I try to hide behind sunglasses as much as I can.

Earplugs are to do with sensory issues. Because earplugs are ''socially forbidden'', (in other words, people ridicule you if seen with earplugs in out in public - because conformism is so dictating!), I only tend to wear them when it's freezing cold, so that I can put my hat on which covers my ears so that they can't see the earplugs. So one cold winter's day I went up the supermarket, wearing my hat and my earplugs underneath, so that I could get what I needed without the horrible noise of the toddlers screaming distracting me. But there was only one snag about wearing earplugs. If I saw somebody I know, they might think I've gone death or something (because I don't normally look at people, so I wouldn't spot people I know quick enough). Then I would have to take an earplug out to be able to hear them, and they might wonder why I have earplugs in. Wearing earplugs is completely not thought of in the NT world, and you could explain to an NT 'til you're blue in the face why you chose to wear earplugs when out, and they will still laugh at you or something like that.

So there's no escaping that horrible noise of the toddlers. I think toddlers ugly voices is the worst noise in the whole wide world.
