'We are all somewhere on the spectrum'

My mother always says this, before being telling me to stop talking about rats all the time, because it's annoying and unnatural.
Don't lose heart! She wouldn't say that if someone she knew was bitten by one and only you knew what to do. Given the number or rats and their abilities, having at least one rat expert in each city is a very good thing.
In my town we have anti litter posters that say "the more litter you drop, the closer we get" with a huge picture of a rat. It makes me want to empty all the bins on the street. I love rats. I don't have a rat obsession but they're amazing - so intelligent, so successful, so athletic, so friendly, so clean, so beautiful. They look after their sick, they can be trained to sniff out bombs and drag wires through walls for electricians. There are probably more rats than humans, but they aren't destroying the planet.
Now obviously if I lived in some third world country where rats were likely to kill me, that would be different. But I don't. We can live in harmony with them if we use our intelligence. We have nothing to fear from rats except our own ignorance. Stay educated about rats. Educate other. It's a hard task but worth it.
