Maybe you could qualify for a Pell Grant. If you (or your parents) make below a certain amount, you just might qualify for a Pell Grant, which you don't have to pay off like a student loan. Then there's the BEOG, and others. You (and/or your parents) should fill out an FAFSA.

Working at McDonald's certainly qualifies you income-wise--if you are not living with your parents. Your parents' income just might qualify as well--especially if they're working in retail as well.

There's no shame in working retail. Many degreed individuals work retail, especially away from major metropolitan areas.

There is a "Hamburger University." You should Google it.

LOL....aside from the ice tray, where did you get "margarita"from---is that just a catchy name?

My screen name came from a nickname which was given to me when I was 9 years old. Some kid wanted me to gain confidence because I was bullied a lot. We were starting a softball team. We each had to come up with a nickname to put on our tee-shirt, which would serve as jerseys. The kid came up with "Krafty K*******(my last name). He thought I was smart, in a nerdy sense--hence "crafty," which became Krafty

From what I've been able to gather, most aspies have a crappy work history--I know I do. I was recently fired from Wal-Mart after almost four years as a night shift cashier. I just got tired of the constant stress and started going off for the slightest reasons.

This is what I want to ask. Have any of you ever worked at Hobby Lobby or known someone who has? They are currently building a new store in my hometown in Georgia and I was wondering if you all thought that I could get a job there that wouldn't be as stressful as Wal-Mart. How do you all think I would do?

I've never worked at Hobby Lobby, but I did work at Walmart and surely it couldn't be as bad as that. I've thought about getting a second job there but would not be thrilled about working for a religious company. The good thing about it is you would have every Sunday off.

When I shop in Hobby Lobby, I notice the employees stand around chit chatting a lot, and that turns me off. But at least that means they are not being pushed to constantly stay busy and they seem pretty relaxed.

I live in Georgia too. I know how it is. There are lots of places I could never work at just because of how the people are.

Yep. For years I just had one job after another after another after another, most were about 2 months long, and I couldn't keep one longer than 6 months. I didn't get fired, I would just get frustrated and walk out.

The South treats Aspies pretty bad, don't they? I guess here in the South, if anyone is even a little bit different, particularly in the small towns, he/she is treated as an outcast or outsider.

I've either gotten fired from or quit every job I've had after two months. It's always two months, like a magic number. At this point I've given up and haven't applied for anything in two years.

Most of the people who fired me explicitly stated that it was because they didn't like my personality, or because I was stupid.

That's a cute story. Margarita came from "lime-a-rita." lol

Thank you, I'll look into what you've mentioned. I got an email saying I couldn't get any financial aid until I paid for (and passed) like nine credits out of pocket. In Health Info Tech and Child Education, I enjoyed the lectures and readings but totally HATED the assignments, and once I lost interest I quit trying to keep a good grade. Apparently low grades meant no more financial aid. I guess I could go meet with a school counselor. That should be a blast... kind of scared. lol

I have a typically aspie work history. A ton of different jobs in so many different fields, many of them short term. However, I can at least omit all the ones that aren't applicable experience towards whatever I'm applying for, and I can sort of market the rest the best way possible in order not to seem flakey. i.e. I'd describe something as a short term contract position vs. a job that didn't work out. ;)

My most recent employment history is dramatically better than years past ever since reducing/eliminating symptoms. Although I did hold a couple different jobs for 4 years or so each in the past. But things are so much better now. I've been working jobs I want to work & am building skills/experience/knowledge &, of course, money.

I've had a spotty track record with my employment history I've had an office job which was perhaps the best job the pay and benefits were great but due to my inexperience or condition I wasn't able to pick up on the social cues and gave into the office politics that one was 7months before that I had a stint of jobs ranging from a burger flipper to a coin counter for a coin laundry company to various stock jobs the longest I've held a job was for a restaurant where I was a server/cook and did some managerial duties when our manager was passed out drunk from drinking the night before that oddly enough lasted 2 1/2 years only because I had a few co-workers help me they knew I wasn't "normal" but I did try my best and they would assist me if they saw the look of panic on my face.

As of now I have made some goals which I'm hoping to have accomplished or near accomplished by the end of the year

Vocrehab- Hopefully they will have some way to open doors that will get me back in an office job so I'm not stuck in a remedial "mcjob"

GED- If for nothing else to be my gateway into college

College- I'm trying to find a few near me so that I can get a masters in broadcasting/Communications so that way I can get my dream job of working at a local TV station.
