And not a freeing thought. You're not free of conventions and stupidities of society, you're again chained to the norms of your group, because apparently only very few groups are without conventions, norms and social pressure. It's kind of sad that a ''being yourself group and not feel embarassed for your interests in culture'' is just a strict corset as the rest of society. I heard that the hippie community became like that too, after a while.Quote:

An aspie will wear what an aspie will wear because the aspie cannot see the "whole picture" of what their outfit looks like. Even if they look in a mirror, they will only focus one individual item at a time and are blind to the whole image. I used to wear a shirt that I really liked. It had a nice pattern, but it was 2XL and at the time I was a size Large in shirts. I knew that it was big, but I didn't [i]know how big. It took me a few years before I finally realized I looked like a clown in that shirt.
I do see the whole picture, I just have no clue of whether I'm thin or ugly or whatever. Indeed, body image fails.

I would need to look more closely at this post to give a better response, but I can say that being a hippie is not necessarily a political response. It is more of a social response and one of beliefs. Back in 1968 (I didn't become hip until the next year) my stepmom once asked me what the difference was between a Hippie and a Yippie. I told her that the difference was that Yippies were Hippies with a political agenda.
A story from 1972 might help to illustrate this. At that time I was one of a group of the most hardcore drug users on my college campus. We were known for our twice weekly LSD trips. One day a representative from NORML came to visit our campus and our group of about 15 people all gathered in the room of the student government president to hear what the guy had to say. The guy was so full of political BS that we all found it to be irritating although we all believed in what he stood for. So one by one we each made excuses to leave the room and eventually the poor guy from NORML was left sitting there by himself.

Hipsters and hippies are not the same thing at all.
