Did you try the RAADS-R? This test uses similar code and I would really like to know if it also has a problem. I have tried a range of different operating systems and browsers and I can't replicate this fault here.

I would have thought that it would be quite a disadvantage. I would like to add translations for some of the tests. The films/ sound tests are likely to be too difficult to translate but the text based tests shouldn't be too bad. I am looking for volunteers to help with translations.

I have added the AQ test to the list. As this test has been translated into several different languages I will be adding the translations to my web site, starting with German. Any requests for different languages?

I think the time on some of these test is more significant than the number correct. The time may reflect two different approaches to get to the same answer. A delay in AS might be reflect the difficulty AS people have with maintaining a natural flow in conversation. It's like a snowball, the more behind you get the harder it is to keep up.

I agree. That is why I included the times. It will probably be at least 3 or 4 months before I build up a big enough data set to be able to do any meaningful analysis. Even then the data is likely to be a bit skewed as only a few NTs are taking the tests.

Interestingly, Simon Baron-Cohen's original DMDX based tests timed the responses though the times weren't mentioned in his papers on the subject.

For the reading the mind in films I scored horribly I only got a 6. I tried the voices test and for some reason it crashed and I failed to get the results. The reason why I scored so horribly on the film test is I believe most of them got cut off and I couldn't figure it out so I guessed on a lot of them.

The weakness of these tests is that they measure pure observation. In the real world when you throw in having to multitask (input/output) things get trickier. Then there is the tendency toward gaze aversion that causes the AS person to miss most of the cues anyway. And what happens when you add background noise? I think that these other factors contribute more to AS communication problems than cue recognition. But still, these would be a good part of a test battery just based on the premise that people with ASD take longer to respond because all of those other factor prevented them from acquiring the recognition skills in a normal way.

Cool website! I didn't feel like going through all of the tests, but I tried out a few.

Ritvo test: Total score Language Social relatedness Sensory/motor Circumscribed interests
33.0 1.0 28.0 1.0 3.0
Faces/Voices: You scored 90.0% in 6.0 seconds. Faces: 86.0% Voices: 94.0%

Interesting.

Did you try re-taking the voices test?

I can't think of any reason why any of the tests would cut off half way through. Some them are pretty short though.

I now have most of the translation infrastructure in place. The AQ test is now available in English and German. I will shortly be adding further translations for this and other tests. Unfortunately I only have translations for the test questions. I am still looking for volunteers to help with translation of the rest of the site and the test results pages.

I'll have to agree with that
With me, well I have very different signals on those tests compared to the AQ test

- AQ test 43/50 - very Aspie, or so I thought.

but then...
- "Reading the mind in films":19 / 22 in 14.3 seconds - Very NT
this was despite people talking to me at the same time and asking my opinions on other subjects.
- FQ 75/150, very NT

Either I'm not an Aspie or maybe I just have inattentive ADHD ; or like was said here, those observation tests are different from the real world with people around me. It seems many aspies are getting good scores on the observation tests. Cohen's team should have done those observational tests when the subjects were being spoken to and constantly being prodded with different 'social' interuptions throughout the test. Then there would have been a bigger correlation. Mind you, that's the environment in which I did the observational test, and still got overly NT scores. So now I'm really confused.

From looking at the results of the original experiments neither the FQ or 'reading the mind' tests were as accurate as the AQ. I did very well on the 'reading the mind' tests myself.

Oh, I finally remembered and got around taking this extremely long test and thought I did pretty bad for depending on rote memory but I think the results mean that I did well.

Test taken on 10 May 2012: You scored 76.0% in 4.6 seconds. Faces: 72.0% Voices: 80.0%

The average score for males with ASD is 64.3% in 7.4 seconds. Faces: 67.9% Voices: 60.7%
The average score for females with ASD is 61.1% in 7.0 seconds. Faces: 61.9% Voices: 60.2%
The average score for males with suspected ASD is 70.5% in 9.2 seconds. Faces: 74.7% Voices: 66.3%
The average score for females with suspected ASD is 79.6% in 9.9 seconds. Faces: 79.5% Voices: 79.6%
The average score for male neurotypicals is 80.5% in 6.7 seconds. Faces: 78.5% Voices: 82.5%
The average score for female neurotypicals is 57.0% in 5.7 seconds. Faces: 78.5% Voices: 35.5%

I just did the reading minds in films test, and I thought I was doing really well while i was doing it. I got 6 out of 22. hmm. I don't feel like doing any more tests right now.

Putting them in one spot is a good idea. I'm bookmarking it to play with later.
