All these were my obsessions the day I posted this. Keep in mind "ferrets" was not listed because I don't consider it weird enough to be classified as an "obsession."

I don't think it has to be "weird" to be an obsession. An obsession can be either "abnormal in subject matter or intensity of focus" :wink: .

I have been interested in plenty of other things, but the ones I listed are the things that occupy my thoughts constantly, and always find a way of relating to whatever the current subject is. For example, almost every single project I've done for my children's book class has involved felines. I thought about doing other things, and tried to, but I kept getting pulled back to the subject of cats.

Past:
France (ah yes, my first obsession)
Figure skating
Archaelogy
Memorizing world/state capitols
Certain male classmates
Spies
My imaginary world
Playing the guitar
Present (some of which I've had for years now):
Maps/Geography
AS reseach
Criminal Psychology
Art (making it and looking at it)
Travel
History, esp ancient history
Science (mostly biology, but some astronomy/physics)
The paranormal
Writing
Severe weather, particularily tornadoes
Music
Politics
Unfortunately though, I can't seem to hang onto any one obsession enough to want to make a career out of it :x But that's definately one of the many advantages of having them.

I've had three major obsessions recently:

1. Training characters in role-playing games (this one has been ongoing since I was a child).

2. Accumulating as much money as possible.

3. Improving my health.

I would list advancing in my career as a fourth obsession, but ultimately, the only reason I work is to accumulate money, so career advancement would merely be a means of accomplishing the second obsession that I already listed.

My main past obsession was cats.

I loved patting things that felt like cats, drawing them, having toy cats, writing about them in my stories.

Teachers would tell me off if they kept seeing me write about them.

I've always had a great interest in astronomy.

Since I was 14 i've been obsessed with Nintendo. :P

I hate to say it but i've always been obsessed with getting back at people that pissed me off or upset me.

I love cats, too. I'm still obsessed with them.

It's too bad that your teachers discouraged you. Mine mainly just thought it was funny/cute and put up with it. My current teacher (children's book class, where I only write about either cats, snow, or cats in snow (lynx!)) seems to find it quite humorous, especially since I wear a winter hat with cat ears sewn on top. Of course, I've also explained to her that I did try to write about other things, but that it always just ends up being about cats, anyway.

Obsessions? How can I possibly remember them all?

When I was very small : Cranes. (The mechanical sort, not the birds. God knows why.)
As an older child: Astronomy and science in general
Major obsessions from rteenage years to adult (These can remain with me for years!) : -
T. E. Lawrence ("of Arabia");
Marcel Marceau and the art of mime;
Computers, using the Internet, creating images with Photoshop;
Toronto;
The pianist Glenn Gould ;
Buddhism and its concept of reality;
Asperger's;
The inherent imprecision of language.

Also several minor obsessions (if that's not an oxymoron!) which pop up from time to time, coming and going : linguistics, quantum physics and maths (not that I understand either, deeply) King Richard III (the real one, not Shakespeares version), theatre, psychic phenomena and the supernatural ....could go on for ages but I'd better stop now!

Most of my obsessions come under the general heading of history/literature. Some past obsessions: WWII European Theatre, Arthurian legend/history, anything by J.R.R.Tolkien, Renaissance clothing, Pennsylvania Native American culture, Shakespeare, science fiction. Also: building intricate bi-level homes with Legos, designing houseplans on graph paper, drawing mazes.
Current obsession: Celtic history during the Roman period.

I seem to have a monomaniacal obsession on film; on movies; and moviemaking that's been going on for quite some time.

Also: Muay thai (which could probably count more as a strong interest) and biotechnology.

They sometimes rotate but never seem to change. I don't think I have much interests of any kind beside for those activities.
