I do that all the time, yet evidently i am "not there" according to the people talking sometimes. If i am and they are talking i do not know what they're saying. Also in the middle of conversations i will forget what has been talked about. It's as if my short term is wiped, i need to get checked for seizure activity however.

Me too. It's like I hear people but my brain takes a moment to process what they've said. I'm always asking people to repeat themselves. Once I was talking to a girl and she had to repeat herself a couple times. She started shouting at me like I was deaf. This really pissed me off - what, like it's my fault I don't understand?

When someone asks me a question and I don't understand it the first time, I'm usually too embarrassed to ask to have it repeated. I'll try to guess my way out of the question by responding with "yeah" or "mmm-hmm". Then I'll get weird looks because it wasn't a yes/no question. This never works.

This! Exactly this.

Yep. This.

Yes and what I initially think I hear is usually something crazy, it's a constant source of amusement for me and I'm often compelled to tell the other person what I thought I heard.

Yes, me too. This is an interesting pattern.
