Anyone else hate the word "aspie".

I've always preferred "aspo", because it sounds more like a slur, and those frickin' aspos think they're better than me and that they run the world just cause they code all its software!

I've never liked it, it seems almost derogatory to me because it's just another label, like the word "autistic", that's getting to the point where it's used as a stereotypical term. I don't even like other words for it.
For me, I'd much rather be known as an "individual with aspergers syndrome", instead of "aspie" because I feel like I'm still me (if that makes sense to anyone) instead of a "generalization" that people see instead of the real me.

I've decided now that "aspo" is also inappropriate. I feel it would be most respectful for us to be referred to as "you people".

It's not that I hate it, but it bothers me because it sounds like a label; the same goes for words like "neurotypical" and "neurodifferent".

Something I wrote is going to be published in a book about autism in the future, using a pseudonym that I get to pick. I've decided it will be "You People".

I prefer it to asperger's. Unless it's pronounced the British way,it's sort of an ugly word.

I think "AS" makes it sound to serious...And I think many people have a preconceived idea about "Autism", that it's just like what they've seen in movies like Rainman....

I guess if your trying to introduce somebody to the fact that you have it, it really depends on whom you're telling and exactly what you want to convey to them. I personally don't tell many people that I have the disorder. I like to play my cards close to the vest. However, if I just wanted to tell a friend about it or something, I'd probably go with aspie...

I don't care for it. Sounds like putting a cutesy spin on something that is pervasively debilitating.

I wouldn't want to be called a 'deppy' in reference to depression either.

I don't like words "autism" and "Asperger's". Aspie is OK.
