I wear glasses, and have since I was in my mid 20's as I noticed I was having issues seeing things in the distance. I even have that restriction on my driver's license as I do need glasses to drive. It's actually something that runs in my family as even the NT's need glasses, except for my uncle who got the laser surgery. I don't think it has anything to do with autism as I've met autistics who have never worn glasses, and NT's who would be legally blind without glasses.

It seems the majority of people here wear glasses. How come?

Am nearsighted and wear contacts most of the time, but wear glasses occasionally.

My diagnoses - social anxiety disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

I’m no longer involved with the ASD world.

Glasses are also inconvenient. I've actually dropped my glasses into the river once when I went camping. If the same thing happened with contacts, it would be no big deal as my contacts are disposable anyway. It's also hard to cuddle in glasses and to just put your face down into a pillow. They're also a nice target for bullying - I used to get bullied for it so severely that I really had to trade in for contacts.

As for vision, I don't know why such a high correlation, but my vision problems are purely genetic, passed on from my mother's generational line.

I've been wearing glasses for nearly 20 years now... I have been offered to switch to contacts, but it's way too much hassle for me. I like simple things - glasses can put on and off with a single movement :)

My vision got worse in the past year, I had it checked actually, last month I think. Turns out that yes, I am slightly nearsighted.
It's not so bad now, I don't think I need glasses actually. The only situation it has been an issue rather than an annoyance has been when I've had to see a bus' number when it's somewhat far away, and that would be an odd thing to buy glasses for. I used to have perfect vision. I really hope it's not going to get much worse too fast. I wish I had asked the optician or whoever it was that did the test for me if I should worry but I was too nervous in that situation to say much anything. Also wish I dared to ask my father if he always needed glasses or if his vision also got worse at the same age as me. I don't know. I'm kind of worried but I'm too afraid to ask anyone anything.

I wear spectacles. I wanna go up to someone and say, "your spectacles are showing!"

and see what kind of reaction I get. I'm thinking mostly shocked not in electrocution but more of a embaressemnt situation.

So I have an eye exam in a week. I may get new glasses before the year is out; and I have been thinking about getting plastic frames for the first time, as I have heard that some people may be allergic to most metal ones...... any recommendations on that front?
