Autism And The Lost Plane
Does everyone understand this? There is much in these few words. Let's go into it little by little if anyone does not understand. Take your time. Then we can go to the next part.
So you find it interesting that other people find the enigma surrounding the missing plane to be interesting when there are many more people who go missing every day (e.g. someone just stepping out of their house and is never seen again).
My own interest in the missing plane is more of a technical puzzle - how can an aircraft fly off course undetected. Why are aircraft designed so that the pilot or a hijacker can easily turn off the transponder device. I'm curious to know the cause of the incident... hijacker, suicidal/murderous pilot or other explanation.
The human side of the tragedy is also interesting to me, but to a lesser extent. I'm a little puzzled about the reactions of the Chinese family members protesting outside the Malaysian embassy claiming secrets are being covered up.

I think searching for this plane is akin to group foraging for food. The missing plane represents to the searchers a part of themselves that is lost and being interconnected with other people in the search gives the hope of this missing part of oneself being being found, but the search itself comes to represent being found. In a tribal or social context the stability of the bond of looking for a lost object together with other people, so a common group activity, combines with the variety of the actual search, and I suppose some anthropologist might say that in this sense combing the ocean for debris could represent a form of mutual grooming or lice picking. But maybe I am the only one who would say this....
I think this could all could be an analogy the basic working of brain function. In some sense the autistic person has lost a part of himself and is searching for it.This has been the case with myself, at least. Water water everywhere and not a drop to drink or the seventeenth century zen poem. "Even in Kyoto-- hearing the cuckoo's cry-- I long for Kyoto..."---this feeling of discontent but the autistic person has made his own plane or room or dimension which represents the self that is lost (meaning by self the possibility to act, to express), but this plane has not necessarily gone down in the ocean or been hijacked by terrorists, though maybe it has. Only he himself knows where his plane is, but he himself may not know he knows, which is the intrigue.
The problem is when the intrigue becomes the end in itself to the extent that being lost comes to represents being found. That would be a difficult situation.....but there is a way out.
Okay, Getting down to brass tacks. I am going to be watching Dexter now and making food, but can put it on pause. Let's start with these first few words of my first post, which is the real introduction, and go little by little..

This is your problem right here. You have no interest in communication (sort of what Cornflake is saying above). You just want to lecture. Forums aren't for lectures they are for conversations. If you are so sure that so many people adore your writing, you should get a website and start a blog. IF you are going to post on a forum you have a responsibility to CONVERSE and write so that people understand you. If you have your own blog you can do anything you want.
Edit - PS - I meant a social responsibility, that we all as communal people have to respect each other.

Hey cornflake....thanks for the response...and taking the time and effort to try to communicate with me..i am just going to insert comments in bold as it is too complex for me to format this.......
Actually,I have consistently taken responsibility for not communicating my ideas that well and said several times on other threads that I thought a lot of it was a theory of mind thing on my part....in truth, people are not asking questions....and when they do I answer....but this material is actually designed to be struggled with to some degree...I deliberately make the material on my own threads not too easy...and you may have noticed that when writing on others people's threads what I write has a somewhat different tone to it....
An idea gets presented as something with so many angles, so many considerations, so many interpretations, so many viewpoints - and every single one of them is oh so deeply interesting and requires more thought and what you term as "enquiry" - so much of it, in fact, that no point is ever actually made.
I never said it should be interesting to everyone. Only some people will be interested. No one is interested in all the material on WP...I do not go to the dating forum or even open most of the threads on here....
There is nothing to work with, no spark of interest, nothing to counter nor develop, nothing to pick up and move forward with - nothing but a convoluted, 'everything is interesting and interconnected' word salad - and others get accused of "not trying" when they post puzzled responses.
The real problem is that people are trying, and finding it an extremely frustrating experience.
I acknowledge that some people are finding it frustrating....and already have acknowledged this in another message today, actually
Just one tiny paragraph from earlier in the thread:
You have quoted one of my best paragraphs, though I understand to you it is not good at all. And the whole point was not about looking for the plane. Of course people are going to do that. It was about the news coverage which was bizarrely excessive and lengthy, so imo representing some kind of special interest but why? I have never seen anything quite like it, which is what engaged my interest, but maybe a person would have to actually see it to understand. The gist is about interest in looking for the plane. I guess you could make the point that no one really saw this news coverage as much as I did so do not realize what I am talking about, and I just assumed they would know that because of a theory of mind thing on my part.
Apparently it's about food - no wait: a new reason to live - no, wait: what do we mean by reason? Is it meaning? Ah, but "mean" is a reference to bullying - no, wait: intent - no, wait: middle ground - no, wait: it forms a part of the word "meaning" - no, wait: it's also used in "the golden mean".
[plane] -> [food] -> [new life] -> [reason to live] -> [reason -> [meaning -> [mean -> [bullying -> [intent -> middle ground]]]]] -> [golden mean]
WUT?
I get it ha ha...and thanks for making the effort to write this.Yeah, there was a lot packed in there, and I acknowledge the into to this thread was not that well conceived, though I still kind of like the Dexter stuff and would not mind seeing even a bit more of it.... However I think I am going to try a new approach.
So, you say that this thread is deteriorating because people are not trying to process the material.
What material?
Sorry to disagree about this, but actually there is plenty of material, and it is not my fault people felt compelled to tell Joe that buses are less safe than planes, which obviously she already knows, anyway.
Most of the time these lengthy discourses appear to be the equivalent of someone saying "Apple. Discuss". Yes, it's terribly terribly deep and I imagine Yoko would be proud - but what's the point on a social network? How is it supposed to work out?
People talk with each other here; they laugh, argue, help each other, suggest things - not sit around contemplating the nowness of now in ever deeper thinking.
I am having plenty a good laugh here on WP, and lots of insight, but nothing I am writing has to do with the nowness of now. Literally nothing. My messages are in no way about that, but about past, present and future, so about time, integrative processing of data, hoeing, enfolding, turning the soil over.. And you seem to be saying that I never make messages to help people on WP or suggest things....which is not true...and I can give plenty of evidence of that...
Suppose people were "processing" the material correctly - what would that look like in the context of a thread? (thread hit count and no responses do not count)
Actually responses do not necessarily have meaning in the way you are trying to attribute it. I would look at the quality of the material, and of course that is a subjective call. I have tried to discourage excessive responses on my threads, and have written about this a lot, as I think chat creates not enough grip and too much slip, so, for all you know, most of the readers of my threads are honoring that request....and I appreciate that.
I guess our messages crossed in the mail, but I am going to try a new approach for a while.....One further note, my messages are about time and the way people respond creates time. Waiting creates time and noit being able to wait creates time, just as a spontaneous heartfelt response flowing out of oneself creates time, and all these kinds and qualities of responses together create a new dimension that can touch and affect people much more deeply.[ I am very smart, though sometimes not so intelligent, and have spent the last eighteen years of my life studying how to use this kind of format, internet bulletin boards as a learning tool. I consider that you may know something I do not know, and perhaps you should also consider that I know something you may not know and may have a special contribution to make here. Quite honestly I find it quite distatefgul when people talk about neurodiversity and yet are so upset that others do not accept them, and yet they try to discourage it here, and plenty of people will be reading this.
edited to add, for some reason I am finding your mind really interesting though I have no idea why and completely disagree with almost everything you wrote today. I liked the first message....something about time....

You make a good point about it being a technical puzzle. That could explain a lot of the reason why it is interesting to people. I never thought of that. Do you consider the response to be an anomaly? I do not know if you watch the new a lot, but to me it really stood out compared to other news events.
The recent thing I am enquiring into is the way the the brain wires into a special interest, so I was kind of going at it from that angle, and I do acknowledge the concept was not that well conceived, but at the time it was very vivid.
I wasn't really comparing that event to one person ending up missing, but rather to deep human suffering, In terms of using an analogy the way I presented it was really kind of complex with perhaps too many possible dimensions, but I think that in terms of learning how to process allegorical material which a lot of people were not exposed to as children and really have a hunger to learn, the analogy of the lost plane is pretty good, though, and what I wrote about all the figures in a dream being oneself puts it into focus. I spent a lot of time on here today when I should have been doing my taxes, as I have an appt on Monday, but I feel it was worth it.
About the secrets being covered up---yeah a lot of people think and feel all kinds of secrets are being covered up...and anger about that can screen or avoid processing the grief.
Re it being interesting that something is interesting....so double interesting:-)--that is turning the soil over, so hoeing....which is how the brain integrates,,,a person can realize he is here now and experience the simple sensation, but a part of the brain has to turn even that over, and I think interesting is where I personally got addicted, as I was able to keep turning it over, but could never let go of it....so an addict...and who knows what is behind that, but I guess unbearable sorrow.....I think everybody reading will be able to understand this....
Littlebee I think cornflakes point was that you are writing to hear yourself talk rather than engaging us, your audience. Maybe you can deliver your message in a way that allows us 'slow folk' to understand and participate in the thread. One of the greatest virtues of great thinkers is that many of them practiced at connecting with a broad audience. For example, if a few people tell you they are confused by what you have posted, perhaps you could revise how you are delivering your message. Perhaps you can introduce it a little bit at a time, allow people to give feedback (and accept the feedback whether you like it or not), then introduce a little bit more information when you feel your audience is ready. The point of sharing information and thoughts with people is that everyone benefits from it. When you have four pages of people expressing confusion and frustration they are probably not benefiting from your information. Revise your delivery method, you may be very pleasantly surprised at the results.
Hi Rascal, thanks for the feedback. This is from my explanatory message. So, is there anything here you do not understand? To you or anyone reading, feel free to ask a question. and no, I am not writing on WP to hear myself talk.
And, if you wish, I will break it down even further, one sentence at a time.
you're were supposed to make things more clear. Not more opaque for us.
There are rational reasons that this plane disappearence is newsworthy- it impacts technology, politics, geopolitics, economics, and the lives of 230 people.
Its not just some game. The search does not "represent" anything.
I myself listen for the latest about it when I turn on the news. Maybe you (the OP) are bored by it. But Im not. And obviously the newsmedia gets an audience for the story- so Im not the only one eager for the latest about it.
So that excerpt from your "explanatory message" about how the search "represents searching for food...searching for parts of themselves" is nonsense. And even if it werent crap-what does any of it have to do with autism?
Okay...
Let me rephrase this:
(a) You dont understand us "normal" people- the millions who tune in to CNN to find out about the latest on the dissappeared plane.
(b) We normal consumers of the newsmedia are infact SO wierd to you that our fascination with the plane is ittself a curiosity to you.
(c) So you jump to the conclusion that it is all about some irrational symbolism on our part.
(d) Therefore its symbolism of ...what? That everyone on the planet is autistic and looking for the missing piece of their own mind? But you're the one who is autistic. And you're the odd person who doesnt care about the newstory. Presumably its NTs who run the newsmedia, and the search efforts, and everything. So what does this search for the plane have to do with autism?
Its not just some game.

...do you understand you can use one thing to say something else? Sure you do....I know you do....and there can be a practical value to that, just as there can also be a practical value to simply stating definitive material, as Tallyman suggested. I did find the Dexter part kind of fun-- the juxtaposition of that in with the other material. Oddly it seemed to somehow fit by virtue of not fitting:-) and provided an interesting contrast....
And no its not just some game...where would you even get the idea I think that? Am I really a little bee and are you actually made of plastic? You are using the name of something that is not literally you to describe yourself (which is fine.)
Does everyone understand this? There is much in these few words. Let's go into it little by little if anyone does not understand. Take your time. Then we can go to the next part.
Yeah, that is totally weird. Is the quote from a different thread?
Maybe it's partly group-think? That's not the key part, but it's not just about spectacle or novelty either.
Its not just some game.

Obviously I 'get it' from you implying it. Stop blaming me for your failure to communicate please.
I dunno, maybe people should read more Montesquieu and less Helvetius? Montesquieu was accused of not making a clear point in De l'esprit des lois. To me that's always been the beauty of it. Whereas Helvetius was trying to start an argument that he could win, Montesquieu was just trying to map reality.
You can't have deductive logic without premises. You can't have any confidence in those first premises without taking on just that kind of jumble. What's interestig to me about it is that there *isn't* a neat, testable conclusion. I'm not trying to find God, and I'm not always trying to win someone over or convince them of something. A data map doesn't have to provide me with an answer any more than coordinates have to tell me whether I'm in the right place. It just has to be a useful or mind-teasing way of organizing facts.

No, that is from my first post on this thread after the intro and now it is gone, and I did not remove it, and maybe some other material is gone, too, but of that I am not sure, but my quote of the entire post is still here in another post I made afterwards in which I quoted it and which is now in its place. When I tried to go on this thread a few minutes ago page 2 was missing--the page numbers said 1, 3, and 4, but now page 2 is back, but my message is gone from page 1. I feel sad this happened, and do not understand why or how it could have happened. I do not think the moderators did it, though. Something weird was going on before when I had two windows open and was making the second post that is now in the place of the first one. Some glitch like happened happened once on the Faith thread, also.
Here is the link to the second message which quoted the first one and is now in its place on page one, and when I went back to get this link after writing the above, page 2 was missing from the number queue yet again, but now is back.

Kind of fun, actually...though spooky...but interesting....
Re in your message when you said it is weird, what did you mean? What is weird? My thinking? ?? Well we know that:-) or at least according to group consensus....
