For those who are interested in the physical basis of evolution, Openstax College (a project of Rice University) offers a free textbook with a basic introduction to these topics:

If you are obsessively interested or just want to learn in greater depth Openstax offers a full introductory biology textbook:

It as a wonderful thing to live in an age when so much excellent information is so widely available.

There are many that contribute to society, and many that don't (just as there are NTs). I don't really have anything else to say about that.

Have I done something wrong? >.>

No you have done nothing wrong. I just wanted to clarify you thoughts on this specific angle. And you are right, many on the spectrum DO contribute and some don't, just as in the NT world.

I was having trouble inferring from your earlier posts this angle and just wished for clarification. Thanks! :)

My thoughts had NOTHING to do with evolution. They were strictly centered around the question of whether those on the spectrum contribute to society or not. In your case KOR, even with the profound nature of your condition I still contend you contribute to society. Sure you need support staff. But you do raise awareness, you are also an instructor to those in the medical field on how to work with others like yourself. And you show you are a thinking and creative person just like any other human despite everything. So like ANYONE in society that contributes you do so regardless of your own personal circumstances.

This is why I say we are ALL part of the whole. There are many NTs that couldn't survive in anything but a modern society. Just as you rely on your staff as caretakers, many NTs (and others) rely on people that produce food, clothing, transportation, etc. The reason human society has been successful is because of our diversification and cooperation. All having their place and contributing. I just want society to recognize that those on the spectrum have worth as well and we are all on this rock together. There is too much of this us vs them mentality.

Again I agree with you KB.

I also clearly stated this (quoting myself):

Quote:
But I don't think NTs are inferior, nor AS superior, I simply think that diversity is a good thing, and is important for our evolution.

thanks KB for recognising what am doing!
although hope have not taken it personaly as was directing it at the original post and the other evolution believers in our community,am also a strong believer that every human; disability or no disability has got qualities and abilities to contribute to society in different ways but human beings are usualy their own worst enemies.
for disabled people there is the added barrier of having pressure, expentancies [or no expectancies in some of our cases],
disablism, prejudice, being treated like are useless etc people develop a inferiority complex and it isnt surprising so many people dont see them selves as equals or as inferior to NTs as that is the way they have been mind washed into thinking.
from own experience, have always had a strong work ethic and feel a strong need to contribute in some way or another to show am not useless.

Have NOT taken it personally at all. No worries. When I speak of evolution, it is in the context that humanity as a whole has evolved to require dependacy on one another. Thus our talents are needed for the whole of society for us to be successful as a species. This is true for NTs and otherwise. I take issue with those that think of us as a burden when ASDs do contribute to society. We have value and are NOT worthless!

And you KOR are deserving of the recognition. You have earned it along with my respect for you!

KOR, you are, for sure and for certain, one of my heros.

As far as ASDs' being evolution in progress, I do not know either way but I certainly do not discount it as a possibility. I even consider it possible that it might be an evolution triggered by a creator who is looking for a type of person to save the world from mankinds insanity. I say this with the merest tip of my tongue in cheek.

It does bother me when I read threads like this {i actually have read little of this particular thread] and hear that we cannot be evolution in progress because of our various "inferiorities." That is what makes me sad. I do not discount the possibility that there are such a myriad of comorbidities within our people because of sensitivities to environmental factors that NTs' have built more [certainly not completely] a tolerance for.

I also believe that it is pOSSIBLE that those of us with the most difficulty in communicating are the ones farther along in evolving entirely new methods of communication. I do not know.

I know we are an awesome people. That's about all that I know for sure.

We are all evolved. That's kind of how evolution works. I'll occasionally do a bit of NT bashing but this kind of talk is the neurological version of saying "whites are evolved".

To be fair, I've seen plenty of non-autistic people (is this term ok Norny? lol) bashing autistic people, a whole lot more than the other way around. Just go to any forum that is not about Autism, mention ASD, and see the reactions. One thing that I realised is taboo in general, is to dare mention if you have noticed a person has a few autistic traits, the only ones who will understand that you don't mean this as an insult are the ones who are either knowledgeable or familiar with Autism.

Also I think "NT" bashing is possibly in response to ASD bashing, at least in some cases. Other than that, some people simply feel superior to others, for whatever reasons, whether they are autistic or not.

Allistic is an 'official' meaning for 'non-autistic' used alternatively with NT. I honestly don't mind if you still use the term NT as it is easy to recognize. Ideally, I would prefer it to be erased (not possible sadly) due to the implications I posted in the other thread. I can still see it being used reasonably, in fact I don't know what you would call a person without any diagnosis/condition without it, assuming a literal interpretation of allistic. It's just really bothersome on how many planes the term is inaccurate/contradicting.

Allistic just sounds so weird to me, like some New Age, politically correct, term (not that I mind New Age things, but ...). Maybe if everyone started using this word it would eventually sound better (to me), I don't know. For now I think I'll try to use non-autistic or something like that (and hopefully you can forgive me whenever I forget and use "NT" out of habit)

They still believe in all the lies, and struggle to live a decent life among the agents. Maybe this is the reason asperger and pre-schizophrenia are similar conditions? I believe we live in a massive lie. Autism is a gift because it forces you to try to see through that lie, and it also makes you less susceptible to the hypnosis.

Yes we are evolved. (more than most) And no, being more evolved is not the same as producing more offspring. They lie to us about a lot of things. The more evolved a person is the more autistic it is. It's quite obvious. No, we're not all equal. A lot of people are above me in the evolution. So?
