People have told me however, that I would often talk about my stuffed animals as if they were living things, like when I thought I should give them away because I didn't role-play with them as much, and that they should be owned a kid would would really enjoy them, especially if they can't afford to have many good toys. But if I did I'd often end up missing them and realize I'd never see them again.
Darn you, Toy Story! Darn you to heck!
I also have a problem with my video games. I've sold or given away games after beating them and then regretting it, even though I probably won't replay it unless it's to see the different endings. It's as if the characters in the games I've grown attached to are gone from my life and having other things like plushies or pictures or even a video of the gameplay just reminds me of that. I especially wish I hadn't sold my first Pikmin game, even though I beat it and got to see all the endings.
I forgot about toy story! I don't know how I could have though. My youngest son was obsessed with it as a kid. He watched it every day and had a Buzz Lightyear and a Woody. Although his favorite toy was his Tazmanian Devil beanie baby.

It's funny, I'll do this with alot of things.... except machines that arent working right. Particularly electronics of any sort. I absolutely will stand there and threaten them for 5 straight minutes, as if this actually accomplishes anything. If I get annoyed enough I'll just kick them a bunch as punishment for... whatever damn silly thing they did. Clearly, beating on a damaged machine is the way to fix it. Ugh, I dunno why I do that.
But anything else? Yeah, typically gets my sympathy though I rarely know why, but it happens pretty constantly.

Personifying toys seems to be quite a common thing, based on the responses here! I don't think Toy Story is just to blame (though it probably has made it a bit worse).
But that's an interesting point... Maybe food does want to be eaten because it would then be fulfilling its inherent purpose. If a piece of food was left on the plate, it might assume that it is not loved and did not live up to its expectations as a piece of food.

I always saw good night to several items in my bedroom and I also say good morning to them too. Doing these things is an established routine and pretty time consuming but... it's just something that I feel compelled to do.

Yes. This was the reason why my bed used to have so many toys... I felt I was neglecting the other toys and making them feel lonely if they weren't on my bed and were in the toy box. I used to also feel like my shoes would feel jealous of the other, so I would bring them all out. XD

No I don't feel like that.

My daughter noticed the cow paintings, of course. And had to find the mouse. She very much did *not* like the old lady whispering, "hush". And every night she'd get riled up by the page that wished a good night to, "nobody". And I'd inwardly sigh as it was supposed to be a calm, *relaxing* bedtime book. 'I love you, Stinky Face' on the other hand really would calm her and ready her for sleep.

I do.
I'm currently in the process of selling my computer that has been with me for more than 3 years now. I know I'll use the money for a good cause, but I still feel like I'm abandoning it, and it makes me feel sorry.
It's even worse when I'm selling something to buy something else, or when I'm just buying something new without selling the old one. It feels like I was cheating on the old thing with the new one. This is one of the reasons why I've been using the same phone for 4 years now. It grew close to me, although it is badly damaged, but that only signifies that it was I who has used it for all this time. It is like a faithful companion to me, and by buying a new one, I would feel like cheating on it. So I'll probably just wait until it gets totally unusable.
I do this, too. I go out of my way to let the first words/letters typed stay. lol
We once smashed a coconut because we couldn't figure out how to open it. It got all nasty because we smashed it on the ground, and we had to throw most of it away, but I felt so bad that I destroyed the shell, who was just doing his job and protecting the innards.
It takes a lot of work for me to detach enough to throw something away. I've kept ruined shirts just because I felt that they had been nice and loyal and I wanted to let them retire in peace in my closet. It's not really peaceful in there, though.

Most of my "ruined" T-shirts end up as things like pillow cases because I've usually had so much fun in them that throwing them away is also tossing part of the memory.

I felt terribly sorry for my old phone when I upgraded the first time. I haven't felt sorry for the other one because I gave it to my mum and knew she'd look after it. But my original phone no one wanted because it was rubbish. Which was true, but I still felt sad for it. Like I was hurting its feelings somehow.
I have a charm bracelet my husband bought me last Christmas. It was after having a shower one morning, a couple of months ago, that I realised one of the charms was missing. I looked everywhere and couldn't find it. Cried my eyes out. All that kept going through my head was what if this little owl was scared? All alone somewhere. And what if it thought I didn't love it enough or care? My husband said he would buy me another the same, but I wanted to find that one, safe and well. Luckily, we found it. Down the toilet, of ALL places. Didn't stop me kissing it though (after it had been thoroughly washed and disinfected!)

That was actually a heartwarming story! I'm glad you found your little owl but I hope it wasn't too traumatised by its toilet experience.

Repurposing stuff is a great idea!! I once turned a stuffed Care Bears bear into a lamp. I sometimes sleep on the floor and hate pillows, but shirts could be turned into yarn and made into a rug. Or something. Hmm.
I feel bad for my phones, too. And appliances. We just bought a new oven and the old one received a nearly-teary farewell when the donation dude came. My partner looked a little confused. lol
If things come with many parts I don't like the parts to be split up. I once had a keyboard and a stand; I gave them to someone who used it more than me but he didn't want the stand and said I should sell it on eBay... :-/
