I used to draw a lot when I was younger, and then I stopped due to lack of confidence. About 3 years ago I started up again, and discovered that I can draw photo-realistically using graphite and charcoal pencils, but I've only done about 3 drawings since I restarted. I have to be really in the mood to draw, and I usually find it quite exhausting by the time I'm done.

I get the confidence thing. I mentally beat myself up relentlessly and I have to push through this at times. There are parts of art that I can be hyper focused and other parts where I struggle.

Here's my most recent drawing, which was completed in October 2014. Took me around 30 hours. I haven't had enough motivation to draw anything since, as it takes a lot of focus and it really wears me out. This is one of the reasons that I hardly ever draw these days. I've blanked out my name for obvious reasons:

I've been able to draw photo-realistically since about age twelve. It's basically just copying what I see. I can do it with painting, too. To me, it's not a real talent, because it's only copying. I might as well just take a picture. It requires no real effort, only some time and patience. I'd rather be able to draw accurately what I imagine.

Back in the old days before cameras I could have made good money doing portraits. Of course, I wasn't born yet.

That's so cool that you can do so without any real effort, and I would definitely consider that a genuine talent! It would be nice to see some examples of your work :)

I'd have to put my old stuff online somewhere. I don't do much drawing anymore. I may start again when I feel the inclination.

I wonder if I could sell some of my paintings...

I wish it was lol! No, unfortunately I can't take credit for that one. I found it online about a year ago and I thought it was really cool. I have a very particular regard for Mr Neeson and his movies, which is why I use it :)

You can put it in something like Deviant Art. I think there's a way you could sell it via things like Deviant Art, or something similar.

I have given away most of my art. I've been paid to do portraits before. I don't draw as well when I feel no personal motivation, though. I have to want to draw or paint, not just do it for money. I have no space to do it now. Need a room to set up a table, an easel, some painting supplies, so that I don't have to take everything down each time I take a break.

I possess absolutely no talent at all. Sometimes I wonder whether my life would be easier if I couldn't communicate.

As I said earlier in the thread, I believe that everyone has at least one talent, regardless of who we are. There are often things that we just do without giving them any thought, but that others find to be extraordinary. Sometimes it's just a matter of looking at things from a slightly different perspective.
