There are almost 700 mainline Autistic Traits, having at least one of them means that you're on the spectrum, though you'll be very unlikely to get an accurate diagnosis with just one trait, unless of course it's one of the severely crippling low functioning traits.

Interesting! What is a "mainline" trait? I don't quite understand the term as it's used here.

Also: where can I find a list of those 700 traits online? I googled for "700 mainline autistic traits", and couldn't find anything except this thread.

Here are the 700 Mainline traits.

As regards light sensitivity:
1. Prefers Aviator sunglasses when the sky is hazy.
2. Prefers Brownline sunglasses when there is a cloudy overcast.
3. Prefers Retro Square sunglasses when there is a hint of pollen in the air.
4. Prefers Round sunglasses when the sky is hazy and there is a hint of pollen in the air.
5. Prefers Sport sunglasses when there is a cloudy overcast but the sun is due to emerge at any time.

(The other 695 Mainline traits to come soon).

Ha ha that's good!

(But seriously, is Idealist just pulling this out of thin air?)

It's not a matter of having specific traits, it's a matter of the underlying cause of the specific traits. The traits can exist for any number of reasons, what makes someone autistic is all the traits are interrelated. Really, I say someone could have NONE of the traits, but still be autistic, if they have a particular unusual presentation for one reason or another. What is understood as being autistic traits changes over time as autism is better understood. But in order to actually get diagnosed, you need to have traits in basically every category (again, depends on the exact diagnostic tool, they very and change overtime) AS A CHILD.

But I still qualify as ASD because I used to have outbursts before I went on antidepressants, have weird obsessions with certain people, get easily anxious at work, can be flexible in routine sometimes but other times sudden change can make me have an anxiety attack, don't make friends as good as the average NT, anticipate sudden loud noise, be quite odd in personality, and a few more things.

But I have always been highly anxious, with typical social anxiety too, and attention issues.

No offense but how exactly do you qualify for ASD...?

Everything about her is inline with ASD. Social problems, check. Obsession, check. Sensory problems, check. Yeah, there is more to ASD than that oversimplification, but what more are you looking for?

Actually according to the information she gives, there are as many social problems as a non-autistic person, I. Fact she has Better social skills than my non-autistic cousin who has social anxiety.

An anticipation to a sudden loud noise is fairly typical and not at all a sensory sensitivity, a sensory sensitivity is more than just not liking loud noises, it's not being able to HANDLE loud sounds, bright lights and so on.

Obsessions with people are not exclusive to autism, in fact it's quite common in NON autistic people, I know many non-autistics who become obsessed with friends, romantic interests or even enemies.

No information she gave warrants autism at all. I'm not saying she isn't autistic but it seems that if what she's saying is true and if her childhood behaviours were no different then I would say that she may not be autistic.

It's someone describing herself in a post, you can't measure our severe any of the traits are because people generally aren't the best judge of that in themselves. All the traits can possibly be the result of autism and all the areas are covered, it's just a question of WHY and then severity. So yes, according to the information she gives it could just be all the problems of a non-autistic person, but it could also be the problems of an autistic person. So she might not be autistic, but it's not saying she doesn't qualify either.

EDIT: I only read the second part of her post, missed the first paragraph somehow. That's a bit more contradictory, but still completely possible. I can do basically all those things as well, though I couldn't do some of them in the past, which is the important part.

I have been so obsessed with a person before, I acted like I was stalking them and I even harassed a girl on the phone because I called them too much. I have control of it now, I just stay away from them.
