I live near Puyallup, but grew up in Kent/Covington. My parents moved here from CA about a year before I was born because it was the rugged, chic thing to do and my dad had the opportunity to transfer up here with his job. Our area was wooded and unpaved at the time and we had an SUV/4WD long before it was "cool." My favorite place I've lived in WA is Tacoma, though; I lived there for 6 years when I was first on my own.

I'm surprised that you listed Yakima in the poll, but not Tri-Cities. Tri-Cities is about 4 time bigger then Yakima is.

I'm glad that you enjoyed Kennewick(which is part of the Tri-Cities area.) for how quiet is. Ill take it over Seattle or Portland anytime. Although Portland isn't all that bad. Seattle is just a mad house. I don't see how anyone can stand to deal with the traffic in that place. It's just horrible.

I grew up in a suburb of Tacoma called Spanaway. lived there most of my life, in fact.

I live in Snohomish County surrounded by rual areas. Seattle reminds me of that city in the Matrix.

it takes a complicated type of person to handle the intense complexity of seattle. comparatively simple folk like me need not apply.

I like visiting Seattle. To me it's like watching a 3D movie. I really like the architecture. And watching the hustle bustle. Very interesting place. The Pike Place Market is too crowded, noisy and smelly though.

compared to the small town I live in, seattle hardly seems to have any obese people. I wonder why that is.

Two things it seems most Seattleites do is run and walk little dogs all the time. Oh and lots of bicycling.

If I had to live in Seattle. I would most certainly would do that. Anything to avoid getting behind the wheel of a car.

As I said before. I enjoy visiting it, but I sure don't wanna live there.

Of course, Pike Place is gonna smell like hell. Do you have any idea of how much raw fish go through that place.

Tacoma is about as intense a city experience as I can handle.

Ugh, don't get me started on that. Our mayor and city council have, in their infinite wisdom, decided to discourage driving by easing up parking requirements on new developments, so now it's impossible to park anywhere near the trendy districts, and they forgot the part of that plan that requires building usable public transportation first.

Auntblabby - Yes, Yakima does have a gang problem, especially east of YVCC. If you travel to Yakima, avoid hanging out on North 1st Street (near the motels), anywhere along Fruitvale Blvd, especially to the east near the Subaru dealership, or anywhere in Southeast Yakima (i.e. South 6th St, Fair Ave, etc). We just concluded the Central Washington State Fair, which is at the fairgrounds on Fair Ave...but the neighborhoods are very much ghetto. Yakima also has had a long history of drug problems. Cocaine used to go through the bad parts of town often many years ago.
On the other hand, neighborhoods and small cities to the west of town are quite good, actually. West Valley, Cowiche, and Gleed are good places to live. Selah is also very nice as well, straight north from Yakima. Major, positive difference in the crime rate there.
It is slightly more expensive to live in WV/Selah/etc.
My family has roots in Yakima. They've lived here for many decades. In fact one of my parents grew up just blocks from Downtown Yakima, back when it wasn't a ghetto. I decided to move from the westside to be closer to family, and to get away from the crazy mess that is Seattle and the Eastside suburbs. I DON'T MISS I-5/405 RUSH HOUR! :x

We mainly watched KOMO, with occasional KIRO and mostly Q13 during the mornings. Jeff Renner came to my elementary school, he was really nice. Tegna (the new owners of KING-TV) laid him off earlier this year, along with Dennis Bounds, Linda Byron and Jean Enersen (even though she had "retired" somewhat). I miss the great combo of Dan Lewis and Kathi Goertzen on weeknights (may she rest in peace). Our family watched her try to fight those brain tumors, which eventually took her in 2012.
Every year we watched a couple of local events on TV...the Hydroplanes in August on KIRO (with Steve Raible, Chip Hanauer, etc) and the New Year's at the Needle celebration on KING every New Year's Eve. The Space Needle is a shamefully-underrated show. The fireworks and music soundtrack is great every year. Yet outside of the NW, you'd think the only American New Year's celebration was Times Square! NWCN also airs the fireworks, so we can watch it in Yakima!

^^^ :o I can't believe it's been 4 years :!: since Kathi Goertzen died such an awful death. :( tempus fugit. :skull: thanx for the safety warning of Yakima, sounds like west is the way to go. I had no idea that those KING tv people were laid off, I thought or they made it seem that they all were "retiring" all at once. I wonder what was tegna thinking?
