I'd rather read an autobiography by somebody describing their experience of being autistic than a shallow book bragging about the highpoints from someone's life as a football player, politician or business person.

Agreed , not sure what the author of this entire thread had in mind . Am imagining perhaps his level of Autism might be fairly low . If at All on the spectrum ?

It won't matter to me if people are writing and reading to be seen, whether or not they're writing to sell a story or just some personal catharsis of theirs.

I was repeatedly asked to write an autobiography. Seriously.

And if I'm going to write my story, my own autistic experience won't be a center of it.
Nor how people treated me or how hard or a joy living is.

The closest thing I can give to everyone about my story is slicing stuff thinner from within and trying to put certain concepts with no words for into words.
It's apparently the best thing I'm able to do if words are ever involved apparently.

When I gave up reading 'pro' material, I (very reluctantly) picked up 'maar je ziet er toch niet autistisch uit', the biography of Bianca Toeps. (translated to English as "But you don't look autistic at all")

While not agreeing on everything, it did help me a lot in understanding not all autistic people are 'textbook' the same.

Also read Why I jump and while a completely different sort of book and a different end of the spectrum, his questions and answers did allow me to try and answer for myself. (didn't manage all and some do not apply but was confronting to find similarities). Unfortunately the disney or netflix docu is more promotional material for the translator.

It is not compulsory reading of course... but writing (even if not public) and reading can help a lot.

Hmm, I can see two things wrong in the OP. One is that some autistic folk have been abused by their family or peers from a young age, and two is that autism is as serious as Downs syndrome because of all these so-called physical diseases that apparently come with autism and the incredibly short life span s**t that is often shoved in our faces.

So how can we not complain about autism?

I can't find the book. There are many biographies about autism.

I was just looking back at what I said in this thread. I no longer wear the blue helmet. I still feel that other people are the problem and not the autism itself.

The OP last visited WP on 24 Jan 2018; he asked for his account to be closed.
