These sorts of things are more important than people imagine.
In my experience, kids will exclude others for all kinds of daft reasons. For instance, I remember when I would go on holiday to the South and the other kids would refuse to talk to me because I sounded too "Northern". I remember going up to these two girls when I was younger, and they both stuck up their chins and walked away as if I was some kind of "commoner".
Or when I couldn't join a club because I have freckles lol, if there's a difference, kids will find a way to use that and exclude others for silly reasons.
