I detest the word "veggies". It is baby talk. Anyone over about the age of five ought to be able to say "vegetables".
My opinion of people plunges when I hear them say "veggies". They are saying that they consider the person they are addressing to be a child and are talking down to them. They are being very condescending.
I never even heard someone say "veggies" until I was a senior in high school. I was vising an aunt and uncle and their younger daughter who was maybe about sixth grade said "veggies". My opinion of her hasn't changed much since then.
I hate other baby talk as well, but you don't really hear them as much except when talking to a baby.
