I don't fit into statistics unless there is a group for those who don't know where they fit! Haha!

I dunno, Kraftie, I love stats...
But if you think about it, a stat showing the number of marriages that end in divorce is always going to be a high figure. Because in how many other ways can a marriage end? Even amongst NTs, marriages lasting right up until one passes away aren't all that common, I think?

I am very new here, but appreciate the same qualities of forum members as I explore and read, I find many I can relate to on many levels. I feel safe here after also experiencing numerous attacks from others on various forums (why should things be different in most online forums than they have been for me in real life?) I accept that and value the places where I can take refuge and not have to be so wary. WP has turned out to be a valuable source of insights and utility, and I am looking forward to settling in for a "long term relationship" with this group. Thanks for putting the feeling into words.

Screw statistics. They don’t take into account individuals, nor individual marriages.

If I went by statistics, I’d be a 60-year-old virgin, and be on SSI.

Sometimes statistics are flawed...For example, if these expert counselors rely on their own clients who participate in their clinical studies...They will miss a significant sector of the ASD population who did not consult them...So, their results would be wrong...I suppose...

When i was young, a couple of decades ago, i remember checking the numbers...And back then in the mid-nineties to be specific, the divorce rate was already more than half...That figure double in the case of certain professions like law-enforcement agents... 8O

And there is likely a "significant sector of the ASD population" that is an oblivious ASD population. That is, folk who are on the spectrum and don't know it!

I was an oblivious ASD husband for 19 years. (It was still a neurodiverse marriage, however, since she was diagnosed ADHD--though I was mostly oblivious to that, too.)

I’m not a total disbeliever in statistics...it’s more like I’m a disbeliever in the RELIANCE on statistics.

I am an Aspie and my wife is an NT. Perhaps that really doesn't describe it. I would phase it that I am an extreme introvert and my wife is an extreme extrovert. We have been married for over 45 years and it works.

Shortly after we married, my wife began to work in a small factory in California. There were about 200 women that worked there. She told me that during their lunch breaks, the women would often talk about their husbands. Maybe talk is the wrong word. It was complain, constantly complain. They would go into great detail about how their husband did this or did that. [It was like a click, you had to hate your husband in order to join.] So she avoided them. A new girl began to work there. She was almost a newlywed. My wife said she was a nice girl and enjoyed talking with her. But then she began eating her lunch with the click and then she began to join in on the stories. In less than a year she was divorced.

So yes I think there is a contagious element to divorce. But it goes beyond the AS/NT relationships into the NT/NT relationships.

The study that i read must have been a study on NT/NT marriages...So, your wife's observations confirm the veracity of said study...And it reinforces in me that i did the right thing to leave said group immediately...

By the way, congratulations on you successful neuro-diverse marriage...It is marriages like yours that inspire me to continue moving forward with my beloved (Aspie) with a positive and optimistic attitude...May God continue to bless your marriage with peace, tranquility and much happiness...
