The sound of small children and babies crying inconsolably. It is one of the sounds I hate most, but one that I am exposed to on a nigh constant basis thanks to my sister.

My ex wife or mother screaming my name.. LadyMs mother opening her mouth at all.. and my ex gf.

They can all hit a pitch which makes my heart skip, my brain cease to function, and all coherent thought fails.

Oh, and the noise my housemate makes when she eats.. makes me want to kill her.

right now, the first thing that comes to mind would be the "alarm" music that plays in the original sonic the hedgehog games when you are about to drown. i have no clue why, but ever since i was about 5, that music has made me PANIC--even thinking about it [after not hearing it for years] makes my heart race a bit. it's one of the weirdest minor phobias i've ever heard of >_____<;;.

Sounds that make me crazy...

Babies crying.
Someone sharpening a pencil.
Electric Hand Dryers. (The ones that are in public restrooms that blow air onto you're hands to make them dry).
Someone scratching a chalk board with their finger nails.

And the most worst one ever for me is, when metal knifes and forks clink together. (I have to use plastic ones to even get through a meal).

Every time I see the title of this thread I glance over it quickly and think it says, "So what makes YOU sound crazy?" Then I get really excited, but alas. The past few times I've done it I even thought to myself, "Wow! I've been thinking about a thread with that name on this forum." But that thought quickly makes me realize I'm misreading again.

At times, such as well I'm already nervous or ill, a lack of silence in general.

Specifically? Let's see ...

loud, repetitive video games;
television;
loud music popular with teenagers currently;
auto horns;
people who insist on shouting at others in another room anyway when they know the others won't hear them;
children talking nonstop about nothing

running water - I need to take mini breaks when washing the dishes, and shut the bathroom door when running the bath. Whats completely hypicritical sounding is that I love to listen to the rain :?

Actually, that makes some sense. Rain sound is generally much gentler than running water. For lots of people, rain sound is soothing. That's possibly why it shows up as a sound for relaxation on CDs and other recordings. I'd almost be willing to guess that a torrential cloudburst, in which the rain sounded like unending, loud drumming on the roof or whatever, might drive you absolutely bats. Am I right? My wife has a problem like that with loud, howling wind.

For me, though, wind sound is actually energizing, much as actually being out in the wind is. From indoors, I love a good, rip-roaring thunderstorm, too, with lots of lightning.

Oh, how I can count all the sounds that irritate me.

1. My parents talking loudly.
2. The sound of my mom closing and opening drawers loudly when doing laundry(Jesus, christ, can't you be more careful like me?)
3. Radio commercials.
4. Radio DJ's that say "Uh" constantly.
5. babies crying.
6. Children crying.
7. The phrase "You're too young to be stressed :x "
8. The crackly noises that a laptop's hard drive makes.(You guys know what I'm talking about here?)
9. The phrase "Marry a rich woman."
10. The sound of a record needle mistracking.
11. The PA system in any kind of store.
12. Ceiling fans that make a "sizzling" sound. (I encountered this while waiting at the Yacht club resort's bus stop in Disneyworld.)
13. Humming ceiling fans
14. mouth noises
15. fire alarms
16. Telephone ringing(What's even more annoying is when the person calling is someone we don't know, my family insists on letting it ring instead of picking up the phone, and then hanging it up)
17. Radio Djs
18. Banging.
19. the high-pitched hiss coming from a television set left on.
20. People hollering.
21. The vacuum cleaner
22. Supermarket where I work: Carriages rolling on the metal platforms in front of the automatic doors.
23. People violently pushing the carriages to straighten them out.
24. The knocking sound from the "Mr. Opportunity/Herb Chambers" commercial played on the radio.
25. Harsh treble.
26. Hissing stereo receivers(my former KLH receiver was pretty bad with this)
27. At the supermarket where I work, one of the registers has a malfunctioning conveyor belt that makes two loud knocking sounds every rotation.
28. My dad yelling.
29. My mom yelling.
30. Rattling window air conditoners(thank god I now have central air)
31. Buzzing bees
32. Mosquitoes.
33. Computer fan noise.
34. Radio DJs tapping the table on the radio.
35. Flickering bulbs.
36. People talking with goofy accents on the radio.
37. children singing non-stop.
38. At work: People singing or humming along with the music being piped through the store.
39. Loud landscaper tools.
40. Factory car speakers
41. "That's Life"
42. "Life Happened."
43. Clicking noises
44. My sister whining when I beat her in a game(She doesn't do that anymore, thankfully)

The sound that sends my anxiety level THROUGH THE ROOF is balloons popping or people handling balloons. I want to crawl out of my skin every time I'm trying to eat in a restaurant where they are handing out balloons to all of the kids. That is the worst!! !

My 4 year old son is afraid of the sound of running water and also ocean waves. I took him to the beach for his birthday, and he would scream every time a wave came in. He also asks me to turn the water off every time I try to wash a dish in the kitchen sink. He also pleads with me to "turn the toilet off" every time someone uses it because he doesn't want it flushed. 8O

High pitched noises designed to scare animals drive me insane. I hate the background noise from MP3 players and I HATE HATE HATE BASS MUSIC! Bass sends me into a rage in which I see red in front of my eyes... literally.

Sometimes I find loud music to be very therapeutic. I used to play in a death metal band. Many folks here would not like me much because I play 5 and 6-string electric bass (with the low string tuned down an extra whole step).
