:? All these things listed in this thread are very lovely , but apart from attention to detail/ability to concentrate , which can't always be relied on (! !!) I can't think of any advantages.

Advantages mean things that help you get on in life , and although being passionate about interests and so on is great fun I don't believe anything about my aspergers has helped me in any way.
In fact can probably say that every day in every way it makes life more difficult, which is why I suppose they have officially classed it as a disability.

Being unbiased and hyper-focused!! Looking good at almost 30! Having a good disposition most of the time. I can't complain.

I find my main AS advantages are...

Attention to details that others may not notice
Amazing Memory for facts going very far back in time
Making hard to make connections
I look younger than I am and feel a sense of wonder more than NTs
Open minded and accepting of others who are unique or different
Being unique and without a herd instinct.
Research ability and a great focus on my passions.

Aspies rule!

1. I don't feel the need to be exactly like most women, who are between the ages 25 and 35, watching American Idol and wearing fitted shirts and Bell Bottoms. - Yes, they are still worn in Canada, believe it, or not.

2. My accent matches my main obsession, quite nicely. I've decided to keep my Cockney accent, around the time that I've started collecting Routemaster replicas, at the age of 21. It only made sense.

3. I have great artistic talent that most people don't have. I also have the patience to concentrate on digital painting.

4. I can go to bed at 1 in the morning and still wake up refreshed, at 6 in the morning.

5. I don't feel the need to diet, like most women do, because I'm also not influenced by rigid gender roles.

6. Babies are drawn to my baby face.

7. I can work by myself, for hours at a time.

8. I'm more tolerant of individual differences.

Well for me i think that all Asby's have different specialtiys about them. Mine in particular is my talent in particle physics which is unsual and also the ablility to focus on things and to remeber lots of facts that are completly useless :D (and btw to anyone who thinks aspergers has no benefits they are obvioulsy welcome to their opinion but the majority of asby's i spoke to all had some special talent which you just don't get in an NT)

P.S. not that i'm saying NT's are inferior cause they aren't :)

P.S.S. Hi to all those that already know me (i joined ages ago back in july this year i think and haven't posted since august time) and a welcome to the new people as well :)

Most Aspies are clever, eccentric and arts-minded. Three characteristics I highly appreciate in people. Many people with AS fit the description. I guess the poster saying "being unique" somewhat says it in very nice words.

lol I'm clever and stupid... :? Sometimes I swear I have a few too many blonde moments for my liking. But I also know some of the things that come out of my mouth are pretty clever. I guess I'm just odd.
Certainly eccentric... and yeah arts-minded but I find it SO DEPRESSING that I'm yet to find a group of ambitious musicians that I know I'm gonna build a strong chemistry with and do some hopefully quality stuff...

It is common for those with ASD's to exhibit greater knowledge in intelligence is their areas of focused interest, especially mathematics and the sciences. Also, their indifference to social frivolities like small-talk lead to a more honest, efficient, outlook on discussions.
