My worry is how threads have a tendancy to spin out of control.
I'd like for anyone who has had success at overcoming a common problem of AS to post, and share their strategy.
Perhaps I'm just a worry-wart, and should let things take their course.

As I've said before, strategies vary from person to person. the answer is not some mathmatical forula that you read and think 'oh, that's how you do it'. I used to be very Aspie, both as a child and in my early teens, but now I can socialise easily, because I managed to get bakc m theory of mind. I learned to think like someone who isn't autistic, and understand the hows and whys of it all. Change is the answer, but people do not like change. This is why people lack success is adapting.

What I'd like to see - and which I suggested in another thread is a special section devoted entirely to healing body, mind and spirit from a biological, psychological and spiritual/psychic approach - the actual healing of the *wall* - breaking through and emerging on the other side intact and thriving. Those that would like to continue to dwell in the mire of their sadness and misforture can do that too - but I tend to agree with the OP that this doesn't serve us well, and in fact, is demoralizing and counter-productive to self-empowerment.

I do like the idea of the holistic mind/body/spirit healing...I am very interested in alternative therapies, meditation, aromatherapy, colour therapy, dream-work...I'm not an expert in any of these things but I feel it would be great to have an area, or a thread at least, where these things could be explored, I think it could be fun as well as helpful.

Is this the sort of thing you had in mind jjstar?

I also like Prof's ideas about general coping strategies. Yes, I do see your point -Vorzac-, people find their own strategies and there are no mathematical formulae to life's problems, but I do worry about the youngsters especially, it's hard being a teenager with AS, and a positive type of thread that says 'yes, it is possible to find a way around problems and this is how I personally cope with suchandsuch' might help them a lot. Just having a generally positive area would be helpful I think. (And I am not knocking anyone here, we all get down at times)

I do agree that WP should evolve and grow and it's good to try out new ideas. It's our forum, so let's try some new stuff. We've got nothing to lose. :)

I think my posts are, for the most part, positive. Maybe I err on the side of being overly optimistic at times. This doesn't mean everything has always been easy. Things were pretty tough for me when I was younger. However, they did improve.

Hmm. Most everything I've seen here has been in good spirits. Apparently I've missed something.

Oh no. An angry man has left the vicinity. How will we cope? Anyway, I'm all up for somethng on spiritual healing, it has a nicer charm than drugs (don't get me wrong, they're just not for me).

Frankly, this forum struck me as very friendly and positive. This is why I am staying here. Anyone who believes there is too much "negativity" here ought to go to the average depression and/or bipolar community and see what negative really means. Or, for that matter, to the Syd Barrett message board (anybody who has been there several years ago will know what I mean - I'm not even sure it exists anymore, I haven't been there for a long time and I suspect that it may have been shut down once again).

me too.

my theory is this..... jazzman fears rejection, he has experienced too much of it in his life. So he has worked out a way to cope .. he gets in first - he rejects people before they can reject him.
