I dislike this. But since for a whole two years I'm only called by my first name and no longer by my nickname in school, I got used to it a little. I prefer nicknames, because I sometimes still dislike it greatly when I become aware of someone saying my first name.

I know why I dislike this, I hate giving parts of me away, saying 'I' is a part of that, but I got used to that, saying my name is part of that, I'm still not entirely used to this and speaking of anything which is a part of myself/belong to me/is mine in any way including property makes me very very anxious and very hysterical.

My name just sounds silly when i say it (well to me at least). I like my first name and my surname isnt bad. But the two together just sound really childish and silly. Maybe because I always imagine how people at school would say it when they would tease me.

I do it...i say my name...but it always makes me feel uneasy...and i hesitate whenever some one asks me out of the blue for seemingly no reason.....

them: "Hello, what's your name?"

me: "uh"........(thinking to self...why do you want to know?)"........um...O..blahblahblah"

my name is sort of uncommon but not hugely (keira). i don't mind it, it gets kind of annoying when people call me Kieran or something else similar.

what annoys me is when people push their need for uniqueness onto their kids by giving them a really silly name (moon unit has been one example) or just take a common name and spell it weirdly eg Rose spelt Roze. dooms the kids to forever have to spell their name out to people. that would be a major pain.

I wouldn't say that I hate my name, but I feel weird saying it, or hearing it. Sometimes it takes a moment to realize they are speaking to me.

We put serious study and planning to get our children's name "just right". Sound, phonetically, meaning. I hope our kids grow up to like their names. My 8 year old has told me that he loves his.

I hate saying my name, when I introduce myself to someone. It makes me feel strange.

I've had a tendency to feel uncomfortable saying people's names, be it my own or anyone else's. But I've gotten more comfortable with it thanks to my radio experience.

Regarding other people saying my name: My family also calls me by a nickname that I really don't like, but I've gotten used to hearing it from them. I mostly like being called Mike. I usually don't care to be called Michael. I'm comfortable with some of my close male friends calling me by my last name, but not so much by people I'm not that close to or by females in general. Maybe it's because one girl who bullied me in high school called me by my last name.

Yes, I really don't like how fancy names have gotten. If I have kids, I'd like to stick to simple, old-fashioned names like George and Jennifer.

I Dont mind saying my name, although its almost like saying someone else's name, because i dont always feel connected to it. The pain is having to say it over and over for people to get it. think apple 'core' and add 'ah'. Just a four letter name: Cora. Its me, but it still sounds foreign to me. Lets face it, sometimes you just dont feel like your namesake.

I usually prefer to have a nickname, because it is hard to HEAR my name spoken. It jolts me out of whatever i am focused on at the moment, or i react the same way to words with the same vowel structure. Someone can say a word that just sounds like my name and it shakes me to attention.

Well at least my surname isn't silly.

My name is unusual and so most of the time people don't bother trying to say it. I'm always startled a bit when people address me by name.

Hey that reminds me. I heard that, in the US, due to "homeland security", they are going to start making everybody use their birth names on all official documents. I'm thinking of legally changing my name so I don't have to use the horrible name my mother burdened me with.

I don't say my first name because I never go by that name. Anthony is my first name and I simply will not answer to that name if someone calls out to me. It just won't even register that you're taling to me if you call me Anthony. You HAVE to call me MARK.
