I've had a tendency to feel uncomfortable saying people's names, be it my own or anyone else's. But I've gotten more comfortable with it thanks to my radio experience.
Regarding other people saying my name: My family also calls me by a nickname that I really don't like, but I've gotten used to hearing it from them. I mostly like being called Mike. I usually don't care to be called Michael. I'm comfortable with some of my close male friends calling me by my last name, but not so much by people I'm not that close to or by females in general. Maybe it's because one girl who bullied me in high school called me by my last name.

what annoys me is when people push their need for uniqueness onto their kids by giving them a really silly name (moon unit has been one example) or just take a common name and spell it weirdly eg Rose spelt Roze. dooms the kids to forever have to spell their name out to people. that would be a major pain.
Yes, I really don't like how fancy names have gotten. If I have kids, I'd like to stick to simple, old-fashioned names like George and Jennifer.
