Not wanting to start an argument here, but The expression "Psychopath"... has been used derogatorily alot too... It actually brings forth a fearful response... Psychopathic killer, psychopathic liar, etc.. and it really doesn't describe Asperger's because, the syndrome is neurologically based, not psychologically based.. The syllable "Psycho" tends to denote something that is psychologically aberrant. We are neurologically different, not psycho's... imho.

I still like Hans Syndrome ;)

You know.. I thought to mention that... I was going to say HA,

"I like Hans Syndrome -- as long as HANS doesn't mean anything derogatory in another language!" I thought about it and figured if a really popular first name was offensive, we would probably know about it and it wouldn't be a popular first name anywhere?? I know "You can't please everyone"..

Personally I don't like the term Aspergers. I only use it so others know what I'm talking about.
Aspergers was named after Hans Aspergers, who initiated reasearch on it. But, that research was primitive, and, frankly, much of it is false assumptions based upon psychiatric analyses - when Aspergers is more a genetic issue, the mindset aspects are simply what is apparent.
In view of such; I dub thee Neurostructure Priorities Complex. Poignant, much?

For aspies--it is likely that with the future critierias,AS will be merged into HFA,most specialists believe they are the same thing, and believe it will be changed.

However, HFA is not in either the DSM-IV-TR or the ISD-10. It is just an informal term used by some writers. Some use it as a synonym for Asperger's disorder (DSM-IV-TR) or Asperger's syndrome (ISD-10). Others use it to refer to autism without intellectual challenges.

I'm all up for Asperger's to be switched into something that could not be easily twisted into "ass burger."

If someone wants to make fun of a person, they don't need a pun, like "ass burger," to do it. I was treated miserably as a child. However, that was in the 1960s, long before there was an Asperger's label or diagnosis.

Does anyone else feel really paranoid about the label?

As for Asperger's original term, I agree that "psychopath" is a bit of an exaggeration.

Yes, the malicious pun is just the cherry on top.

Trust me, some NT are just so stupid that they need to use a pun. The amount of times i have got thrown assburgers in my head is... hilarious at best

In sociology, deviance refers to behavior which is not tolerated by one's community. In many cases, deviance is also criminal.
