Hippies hate me because I'm a proud technology-loving, atheist, "scientistic," materialist, transhumanist "Square."

A true hippy does not hate. He or she is all about Love, among other things. Just check out the lyrics to their songs.
As a partly grey haired ex-hippy wanna be (dressed like one, etc. in high school) I saw the hippies transition to technology. For example, Stewart Brand, the creative force behind the Hippy Bible (the Whole Earth Catalog) later created Co-Evolution Quarterly which was largely info about this new gizmo called a personal computer.
It is true that many hippies believed in Astrology, etc, but were all basically looking for alternatives to traditional western religions. I would be surprised if many didn't eventually go atheist. Atheism is one alternative to traditional western religions. Being agnostic and keeping an open mind about the subject is probably even more common based on the trends that I saw. I am either an atheist or agnostic, depending on the definition.
