Aspies don't enjoy fiction?

I like both, but can only write nonfiction with any degree of skill.

Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter are my favorites. They are worth the effort to get into the books.

I agree with the poster that said it's like having a movie going in my head. It's almost too intense for me, so I feel like the commitment is some effort. I dunno, kinda strange, really.

I enjoy fiction, always have. I love sci-fi, horror and fantasy.

Ditto, I also like reading history, prefer modern.

i suspect this comes from the 'traditional', ie male- model of a.s.. i love fiction, read very little non f.

since more girls are now being dx'd with a.s-( i spoke to one autism centre yesterday about something and she said they get more girls through the doors than men at teh moment) maybe some of this stuff will be re-set soon.
i have feeling that there may be a gender division here- girls with a.s are supposed to be more interested in imaginative things than a.s boys. its said there between 4- 15 a.s boys for every a.s girl, but new reearch reckons it's closer to 2-1.

i also have dyslexia, and its easier to read pages broken up- as fiction is by diaglogue, than large chunks.

also remember- its a spectrum disorder- everyone is more somethings, less others. we area lot more individual than we are given credit for....

Love of life and lore topic

Both. I enjoy Kafka because there is a real life component; the same with my forum namesake, Sartre, who wrote some fiction, and short stories, which is my favourite literary genre. Lots of info packed into a few pages.

Some books are actually done in a crossover style. This is something I would like to emulate.

I just do not like a lot of dialogue. I prefer narrative. (':study:')

Aspies don't like fiction? But I consume fiction in kilos. I'll also sample different non-fiction if I find the topic piques my interest (as it often does).

I live for fiction. I'm not a fan of the real world, so I reside in it as little as possible. Books, video games, and role-playing games typically. My only problem with books is that it gives me eyestrain like nothing else. I would read far more often if it didn't make my eyes fail.

I've enjoyed a great amount of fiction whether, it was the martian landscape of Ray Bradbury's"Martian Chonicles" or the secret labs where bizarre & dangerous experiments resulting in zombies seen in S.D. Perry's"Resident Evil" series and much, much more..I'd like to say, I've too read non-fiction as well therefore, to say, that all Aspies have his/her own unique genres of written material so, some people might like this while others might like something else etc..

I started reading more non-fiction as I got older, because my parents finally started letting me pick my own books out at the library. During this period, I realized how much I hated fiction, and having to stretch my imagination for such long periods of time.

I'm much happier reading a scholarly journal or a textbook, as someone mentioned earlier.

I generally read more non-fiction than fiction.

I don't remember fiction well if it's a novel format. If it's movie format I still don't remember it well. If it's little episodes like South Park I remember that better.

I do like reading manual style formats better.

I read lots of fiction as well as non-fiction.

I don't like fiction at all and never read it, though I used to when I was little. Now I only read memoirs and essays (and occasionally books about politics and social justice).

What I dislike most about fiction is that it's often -- though not always, of course -- written to stroke the author's vanity. I also find the little details in fiction very tiresome, like descriptions of how someone stubbed out a cigarette or rolled down a car window during a conversation. But most of all, it usually just doesn't ring true, the people seem too overwrought and the coincidental occurrences too unrealisitc.

The reason I was told by the person who diagnosed me that Aspies don't like fiction is that we are not interested in the interpersonal nuances of how people interact with each other, and I would agree with that too.
