Reading is such an integral part of life. I could live I suppose, but it would be much duller. I mean think about it, no reading books, no reading anything ONLINE, no reading video game script/stories like in RPGs and such, no reading signs, no reading instructions, no reading labels, no reading at all would be seriously messed up. And all the extra talking to understand anything because I'd have to ask and trust other people, would seriously suck.

Nope. I would hate it. I'd rather lose just about any other ability I have than lose the ability to read. And if I did lose that, I'd probably spend a large amount of money on a fast scanner and a text to speech program that doesn't sound like a robot and give you a headache.

I remember when I was little, before I learned how to read...I was always so frustrated that there were these words all around me, and I didn't know what they said...and mom couldn't always read them for me, especially on signs when we were driving.

It's impossible for me or any other person in the world to live without reading. The first five minutes I wake up, I read my email.

I don't even remember before I was able to read. I work with people who have lost their ability to read, to varying degrees, and some of them tell me how much they used to read.

Two years ago I realized I'd been reading depressingly little outside of schoolwork, and decided to change that. Since the beginning of last year I've read about 115 books, plus schoolwork, non-collected short stories, magazines, graphic novels, fanfiction, and all the little things that I compulsively read. (If it's laying around, I will probably read it.) I don't go far without a book. When I finish a book, in the few hours before I start the next one, I tend to feel like something is missing.

Yay for reading!

I still read - usually more than one book at a time, or pausing one to read another, with a whole list of books waiting to be read when I finish whatever one is my priority at the time. They know me by name at the public and university libraries (the librarian at the latter always knows which books are mine, because it's always the ones that have been ordered in).
Ha! all the library clerks mostly knew my name.. I even WORKED at two libraries.
Funny i used to often ask myself this question 'c'ould i survive?" Now, it has been years since I completed reading two books in one year. As for the reading everything you see, that strained my eyes after a while.. it is a OCD component and medication and behavioral change helps greatly to diminish it for many people.

My mother , (why do parents so not get Asperger symptoms and make us feel so bad?)
she used to say to me 'I DONT KNOW HOW YOU CAN READ ALL THOSE BOOKS AT ONE TIME HOW DO U KEEP THEM ALL STRAIGHT IN YOUR MIND?!" instead of telling me in fairy bookfashion 'ah, wise child! How DO you do it?"
I READ AS MANY AS NINE OR TEN BOOKS AT A TIME AS A TEENAGER AND PUT THE PLOTS INTO CONVENIENT SEPERATE BOXES IN MY HEAD.. THAT IS HOW I KEPT THE CHARACTERS STRAIGHT.

I'm book obsessive. I spend a fortune on books, mostly fiction. They fill a gap in my life - they give me a chance to live a little. Funny thing is that I can never remember what I've read, just the exhiliration of the story. I have trouble reading short articles, like magazine stories or newspapers. For some reason it has to be a book. I can't seem to concentrate on short things.

The Read Stuff topic

I will die with my books on!

Reading was my form of interacting long before there was Internet. I would engage in dialogue with the words, so reading was/is interactive. For me, the printed page comes alive when I read. I believe Readers give life to books.

I have always hated the images of burning books by Nazis. A waste, a murder of ideas. Fortunately, this was not permanent, and reading was resurrected!

I cannot live without books. :study: :study:
