I've repeated "The Hand That Feeds" by NIN for an entire day (8hrs). I thought that was normal.

All the time. I've listen to songs over twenty times -it's so relaxing.

I found out recently that an old friend used to go mad that I would listen to the same song over and over when we were roomates. It was, and is, a calming effect.

Although I don't know if it really has anything to do with AS, I had a similar experience.

Personally, I had no interest in any music until Napster came out and allowed me to download single songs for free. I'm 21 and have never bought an album, single or been to a concert. I remember being a kid and not knowing anything about the groups others were listening to, and to this day I don't really follow a single musician/band. I'd listen to songs on repeat for hours at a time. Just last week I found a song I listened to for two days. Sometimes the songs I happen to like aren't what is considered "mainstream" music or even relevant to today, so I have to listen to them on the lowest volume settings in case my coworkers hear. When I'm driving with someone in my car, the random setting jumps between genres, from rap to classic rock to metal to techno to disco to pop, and I have to make specific play lists depending on who is sitting in the passenger seat. I just can't fathom listening to only one band or one genre of music, or refusing to play an artist because he/she is considered dated or uncool.

When I find a new song that I like I will listen to it over and over again!

I find the repeat function for CD's and MP3's to be a vital feature. I sometimes listen to a single songs (or a few songs in rotation) for weeks at a time with little or no rotation.

Currently, i'm on a genre kick. I am currently listening solely to DPRK (North Korea) military marches.

Yes, all the time. I'm not sure why though, I just do.

Not only do I listen to the same music over and over for years, but I love kirtans / mantras / bhajans which are from India and is chanting where a phrase is repeated ad infinitum. I collect really good kirtan recordings. Also collect Requiems. Listen to music imbued with the Holy Ghost. Have 1000s of tracks of kirtan.

The iPod is awesome. Put it on "shuffle" to hear kirtan in a new way, never know what's next. Then if I want to hear the same piece for hours, use the CD on "repeat."

For that reason have never downloaded music but always buy the CD. Can put it on the Sony and play it LOUD on repeat. Weird because loud noises bother me but if it's a high-vibration song I want it reverberating throughout my bones and the walls, floor and ceiling of the house.

Some pieces I've been listening to over and over for 40 years and they still make me cry with joy.

Yes, it takes me a while to adjust to a different one.

I quite often play pieces/movements etc repeatedly if I regard the music in question as being a beneficial influence upon my own compositional style; it's the musical equivalent of "you are what you eat"

Yes. I do this a lot. Whether it helps me concentrate is another matter. If it is white noise then yes it will help. if it is a favorite song then no, it will usually become a distraction.

Yes. All of the time. The most extreme example is with my all-time favorite song, "Saying Goodbye to Those You So Love" by James Horner, track #12 from A Beautiful Mind's soundtrack. I'm listening to it now, in fact. I consistently listen to this song over and over for 2-3 hours straight. And when I'm listening to it on the computer and can play back my favorite part, it's even more obsessive, because I only play the last three minutes, that same chunk of music, over and over again.

Mm, I definitely do this. You can tell from my Last.fm playlist which songs I've been listening to obsessively for days on end, heh.

I do this.. always have.
Sometimes it's like background noise or 'whitenoise' as someone mentioned earlier.
Other times I sort of have this compulsion to repeat a song, waiting til the very last note then hitting replay again.
I listened to and watched this particular video repeatedly the other day at home.. I'm talking several hours straight... it's just got this energy that pulls me in...
I like it turned up LOUD!

It's not that I like the particular song this is built upon... the original is rather anemic after watching TB bash his drumkit.

iPods are the best thing in personal music EVER!
In the days of the cassette tape.... we had to REWIND to replay songs over and over again... that got old!
Before that... records... it wasn't so bad unless you wanted to just repeat a particular part of the song which was sometimes hard to get right on the correct groove... not to mention the lack of portability while the song played
