I don't follow the rules myself. I almost got arrested for protesting in the streets. Cops suck. I used to be a law abiding citizen, but then I realized how ridiculous the laws are lol

There's always lurkers; some people are new, and don't know the ropes yet. Some people feel that even posting is like conversation, and are uncomfortable with it. Some people don't take it that seriously.

I didn't post for almost a couple of days after I joined up here...;)

I've heard that the govt and law enforcement do regular lurking on WP as supposedly AS people are dangerous after the VA Tech massacre by an Aspie guy. I would suspect a fair number of family members, classmates and employers also use this site to learn the signs of ASD or else to see if someone they know might be on the list.

I think the lurking is bad and site should be made entirely unviewable without membership and there should be a small fee to get the password so that the moderators would have more knowledge just who exactly is on here.

I think the policy here after that Will Freund incident is to report people who make such threats here to the police, and I think that's appropriate. Sometimes it's just attention seeking trolls anyway. So they don't need to lurk here, the staff let them know.

People lurk on all kinds of forums, no matter what they are about... I admit it, I do it too. This place is not unique when it comes to that kind of thing.

I'm rather sympathetic to the lurkers, as I have pretty bad social anxiety issues. The only reason that I became active at Wrong Planet is that I was so shocked and amazed at how many of the comments people made resonated with me. They still do. My anxiety still makes me not post as much though--if I posted all the comments I started but never submitted, my count would probably be double.

Same here, never been a people person.

There is something here that draws me back.

My image of lurkers is sitting quietly at a distance, pith helmet, netting, writing in a note book, trying not to alter our natural behavior.

Sometimes I'll click on a thread to post a comment, then find someone else
has already posted something similar to what I was going to say, so I don't
post. It's already been said. Or it turns out the discussion is different than
what I expected it to be from the title, or the discussion has already moved
on to an adjunct topic and sounds more like a personal chat among friends,
and I would feel like an intruder to post. I think you need to take that type of
"lurking" into account in the total numbers. But yeah, I also think there are
probably many voyeurs lurking. Some people have such empty inner lives
that they need to fill themselves up by gawking, lurking, spying.

hello bea.
but if you take a risk and put your view forward anyway, then the outcome may well be that you find a place for yourself here that is your's and your's alone. You may also find friendship and others may relate to you. i don;t really count what you say as lurking. i have been irked by creepy lurking, and not by "shy" lurkers. for me, now that you clarify it, there is a clear distinction.

(i only thought of creepy lurking initially....)

good to read your post. :)

That does not sound nice, I guess that on WP a NT might learn some of the things he/she would need to spot an aspie. But unless we close down bookshops there will be no way to stop the person reading some books which give in one place a very good guide to how to spot an aspie.

I would disagree about the need for a small fee for the password, if I had been required to pay even 0.01 US$ to get a password then I would never have joined.

Also, we need to take into account the fact that many people might post to a thread once,
then revisit the thread several times to see what other people are saying.

I am the same and I hate seeing me too posts, even though I am now guilty.
If you want number of people who agree a viewpoint, I feel a poll is far better.

But threads quite quickly go off topic and I feel like I am interrupting a private conversation.

I also find this is this green/blue colour for alternate posts very confusing; is there a way of changing the colour scheme?

Hey, you never know; if these lurkers are NT maybe they learn something new and have some negative stereotype disabused.

Yes. These are exactly the reasons why I read these forums.
But I guess I`m not a lurker anymore...

Good man vint! good to have you on board 8)
