Because here, I can communicate my thoughts and read the thoughts of others, but still don't have to actually be around any people. My chances for rejection, embarrassment, misunderstanding, and social anxiety fall dramatically. My chances of being understood, appreciated, and maybe even valued increase.

I like communicating with people, I simply can't stand being around them.

I think the implied meaning of "socialize" in this context has to do with being actually physically present with other human beings and engaging in conversation or some kind of activity with them.

Yes. I actually desire to socialize. I don't need a lot of friends. I'd like to have a few close friends living near me that I could rely on when I'm feeling lonely. I need someone other than my parents and therapist to talk to about my life. I also desire to have a girlfriend but I am not sure how to go about doing that. Unlike some people with AS, I am not ok with being alone all the time. I love my hobbies but I feel that I need some sort of human connection.

They keep pulling stunts like this, and it just feels like I'm being picked on. I never seem to have REAL friends.

I know exactly what you mean with that one.

To a certain extent, I do. If I have absolutely no socialization, I can get unhappy. But online friends/WP is enough for me :)

Yeah, I do.

I prefer and only do my kind of socialising (because I can't do it the normal way), but the better my social skills get, the more people appreciate this new, different form of interaction. That's great.

I want to socialise, but only with certain people. Most people bore me to tears and I bore them to tears; I have nothing to say that would interest them and they have nothing to say that would interest me. With most people, I don't actually want to socialise, but I do want to socialise with the few oddballs I can actually connect with.

Socializing sucks. I don't care about friendships very much. I have alot of ex friends, and it's my fault we aren't together. Not that I feel ashamed about it, you know. Society hates me anyhow.> Loner, Asperger, Bisexual oriented, and self injurer.. thank you.. *bows*

yeah.... :?

I remember the cast parties I stupidly went to back when I was a stage actor. Their rules, their topics, not mine! Don't bother anymore. Blah blah to random strangers in the street? Why? You won't see them again anyway, and I suck at it anyway. And now, typeing twice a week is socialising? Forget that some of these topics are just interesting, and some people are to. :|

Socializing means two different things to me. In terms of, "I can go up to people easily, say hi, ask them questions, talk a little bit, and be on our separate ways," then yes, especially when the socializing involves group projects at school or in a job. I can't even ask anyone if I could be in their group without incredible mental struggle.

If, by socializing, it means, "Having many friends, gossiping, talking about boys, doing tons of things together, and stressing about peer pressure," then hell no. I want a few friends I can trust that respect me for who I am. I'm still in school, and I just don't feel like I fit in with others, and even if I could totally talk to other people without feeling nervous and awkward, I would probably still feel like I was being judged by everyone. Mind you, I am already (from what I hear, my fellow students have come to a general consensus that I am weird and too calm about things), but I don't care all that much and do things that make me happy, like drawing and writing.

I didn't vote in the poll, by the way.

Outside of talking to the voices in my head, internet forums are the most control I can have over an interaction. When I want to talk to people, I log in. When I don't feel like reading any more, I log off. I never get trapped in a conversation and never have to explain my comings and goings. Clearly this is better. :)
