It sounds like a lot of us would like to meet, but the travel issue can stymie things. But like I said earlier, we could always find people in our general area and meet---unless some wanted to travel greater distances. If nothing else, it is fun in planning and thinking about it. But we should keep open-minded on this---who knows what might happen.
Now, let me bring this up. Autism is something that usually captures the interest of people---and often through the media. WrongPlanet has got to be the largest online community of we autistic people in the world (at least I think). It has even received media attention. Could you imagine this happening---a network sponsored gathering of members of the WrongPlanet and telling about our lives? Those of us that chose to have our stories aired on television could do so, while those who did not want any coverage could opt to remain out of the camera's view. It certainly is a way that expenses could be covered. But it kind of takes the personal touch away from this so-called meeting doesn't it? I am just rambling ideas. But I can see it now:
"Tonight on the Discovery Channel(or other station), members of the largest online community of autistics (Asperger's, etc.) meet in a homecoming............."
What a great idea! I was about to say, it would be awesome to all meet up some place, but logistically impossible due to expense and distance. You'd have to find a media outlet willing to sponsor us though, and also there are over 20,000 members of WP (how could they possibly pay for that many people, and then how could they pick and choose which ones to fly in?)
It's a nice thought though...
