OP: ooooo - you're so busted. Perhaps you didn't get much attention as a child (raised by wolves?) but we're indulging you now. And I'm raging Autistic. High-functiong too which implies Aspergian. So there.

Lab Pet has no Sylvian Fissure either.

Attn, Wrong Planet inhabitants! This evening there will be a virtual seance for Dr. Hans Asperger and you're all invited (except the original poster - you're ex-communicated. Voted off the island). Bring your own popcorn. RSVP.

JUST for fun....intermission: http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea ... id=3004519

I refuse to believe such nonsense until it is scientifically proven that AS does not exist. Quoting an author (however much of an expert he or she is) does NOT establish a proof. A scientific experiment with the results that AS does not exist does. Take those apples and shove them.

Wow, this troll must be getting very large from all the feeding they are getting. It will be interesting to see how long the moderators allow this thread to go until they lock it.

Whether or not the OP meant to be inflammatory, to come to a group like this and posting a thread such as this is simply a dumb move. That would be like me going to AFF and posting a thread stating that they should team up with Autism Speaks.

Hey Lab I think I'll send that video link to DiabloDave as he needs to spruce up his routine about ret*d people and this might give him some pointers.
Thanks

Your research is less than comprehensive.
Abnormalities in both visual acuity and audio processing have been found in studies.

Of course, aspergers isn't defined as having abnormalities in visual acuity and audtio processing, its not surprising that folks have it though since one of the DSM criteria is:

Quote:
" 1. marked impairments in the use of multiple nonverbal behaviors such as eye-to-eye gaze, facial expression, body postures, and gestures to regulate social interaction "

All this gibberish about having this and that and traits of that disorder but not this one, it reminds me of the old story of philosophers getting together debating the number of teeth on a horse.

Um, so how is he (I just can't address this creature directly) not doing exactly the same thing? We're giving this person a lot of air time, if you ask me. He doesn't exactly have a point; anyone barely educated in philosophy knows that we live in an uncertain world and that "probability is the guide of life." He could as easily have made a point about the naming of a chair or table.

Callista's absolutely right; psychology isn't a hard science. But that doesn't mean it can't make positive contributions on a practical level. And autistic traits do tend to come bunched in a certain kind of group, so a general identifier (ideally stripped of negative/misleading connotations) seems reasonable. Plus most people can read social cues and body language; that we categorically cannot (at least on an intuitive level) points to a fundamental neurological difference.

Maybe send a pm to someone like sinsboldly, or look in the forum stickies for the appropriate means.

It's about time someone shut this circus down.

junior1 give it up your not going to bring anyone here to your way of thinking. People on this site accept who we are label or not. You are just spiting into the wind so to speak. (I am all for locking this thread by the way.)

You can find the information about this in the "WrongPlanet.net" discussion forum (access from the main forum index). Alternatively for a short cut you could click me.

I have to say, I would surprised if a moderator shut this thread down. So far as I can see the OP is not being rule-breakingly rude, attacking anyone or breaking any rules by simply by breaching the topic. I suppose one could say the topic is "inflammatory" but could not one say the same about "cure" topics and discussing politics/philosophy/religion?

Indeed, which is at least in part why the correlations are so compelling.

Aspergers is a social construct. It does not exist!

so why in your profile does it say "Diagnosis: Not sure if I have it or not" ?

All the weird s--- I said and did when I was younger and still do now is certainly real. So is my freezing up, and slowness at "comebacks" in conversation. Call it what you will.

Ah, another has fallen into the trap of equating psychology to "pseudoscience".

Psychology is science, as it measures objects against other objects, and comes to a conclusion based on the observations. Just because other sciences haven't developed far enough to see the small objects that make up ASDs, doesn't mean that the science that spots the larger objects in motion is erroneous.

How a human interacts with another human is no different to how a virus interacts with a human cell.

There's a rumor that he has AS but is in denial. So I don't take offense when he says AS is a fake condition. He is better off thinking it's fake than knowing he has a disability and would rather think he is "normal."

Some people are better of with themselves when they convince themselves they have nothing and their condition is fake and there is no such thing, so thus they feel better about themselves.

But being in denial just hurts yourself because you aren't doing anything to help yourself cope.

It's like a sick person denying they are sick so what happens? They refuse treatment so they get sicker and sicker and then what happens, they eventually end up dying or in the hospital because they let their sickness get worse.
