I've cut hundreds of times over the past 3 years. I've even slit my wrist once (minor suicide attempt). But I haven't in awhile (over a month!) because of my trip tomorrow, I don't want to risk being in the hospital and ruining my trip. But yes, I'm a cutter and not proud of it and have many scars on my arms and legs. They will never go away. I get severely depressed (sometimes to the point of being suicidal) and sometimes even psychotic and that is why I cut. Of course I don't cut when I'm manic though. Right now is a "mixed episode" I'm showing signs of depression and mania at the same time. But mine is situational based, not chemical. Manic about the trip (staying up super late, sometimes pressure of speech, lack of appetite, grandiose ideas) and depressed about everything else (sad, well lack of appetite can belong here, too sometimes thoughts of death, slowed thinking at times but sped up thinking at others, and other symptoms). But I'm schizoaffective bipolar type along with my autism, how fun!

Yeah I did it during a particularly depressing perioid in my teens (for once I won't write the details for everyone to read! *gives self cookie*)

I did even sometimes commit the Ultimate Sin That Everyone Surely Remembers To Deny But Nobody Seems To Have Done also known as attention seeking. I don't really know what I would have gotten out of it but I'm lucky no one really reacted (though I'm sure it was good gossip material).

I cut...as well as other types of self-injury....since I was a really young kid. Have been training myself out of it, though, over the past few years. I only cut once since the beginning of 2009, which is pretty impressive for me. I still occasionally bite myself, but not anywhere near to the extent I did when I was younger.

Cutting for me was always a release....sort of like bleeding out the negativity. However, it had its drawbacks, and not only was I hospitalised several times as a result (I'm also anaemic, which doesn't help when it comes to bleeding out), but about 5 years ago, I started the process of having scars removed via laser, all over my stomach and legs. :(

I've cut myself every now and again since the age of 13. I'm willing to bet $100 that I have not only the most scars, but also the biggest ones. I remember one time when I got drunk I got this sudden sensation to cut myself. So I took this brand new hunting knife I had just bought and just started going to work. The first cut I did was so deep that I could see the fat under myskin. It didn't bleed at first, but then it just started shooting out. I became fascinated by the blood streaming down my skin so I did some more....and more....and more. Any one a fan of Black Metal? If so, well then I looked like one of those guys who dump a bucket of blood over their head because my upper body was almost entirely red from the blood. Then I ended up collapsing and seeing the preverbial bright light (which really all it was is everything started getting bright...no freaking tunnel) but I managed to pull myself together, clean myself up, and stick some gauze on...well everywhere.

But yeah....I have them on my shoulders, chest, stomach, ribs, and upper thighs. My shoulders are nothing more then a topographical map of pain.

When I'm stressed, I think playing video games or watching TV is a much better alternative then injuring myself, so no, I've never partaken in that activity.

I can understand continuing to cut once you start, but how do people get started on it? I know every now and then I get this odd sensation of I don't know whether it is thinking I am going to be stabbed in the stomach, or wanting to...

Cutting? No, I've never (intentionally) cut myself. Did try to stab self with thumb-tacks before though (didn't succeed and don't ask.); and do other "self-injurious" things (bite self, punch self, bang head on things, [purposefully] walk/run into walls, pick open scabs a lot, ect.).

I'm curious about this. I only tried it one time when I was exceptionally unhappy about something. I imagined it would be easy because my emotion was strong, but the knife made no impact. So in my weird aspie way I went to the hardware store to buy a sharpener and I'll never forget the cheerful cashier who smiled and said "Have a nice day" and of course I replied " you too thanks" because that's what the normal people do. And a few minutes later I sharpened my knife and pulled it across my arm. And I was surprised and disappointed by how much it hurt and how little it bled. And I kept trying but it kept hurting so I gave up. And I felt pretty wimpy and pathetic, but I never tried it again.
