UPDATE:

got through to Adrienne on the phone, yay :D
also got some more info.
She says that they said the tumor was cancerous, but it wasn't a late stage one. Like maybe it was only stage 1 or 2 :? .
She starts chemotherapy this Tuesday, she says.

Some news finally.

Stage 1 or 2 won't end her but her life is going to be dramatically different from now on. I'd imagine with the size of the tumor that was described that she probably lost most of her stomach and the chemo is probably to make sure it doesn't get into her lymph nodes(if it hasn't already). Not that good really, but she's alive.

yeah, i mean there's always the small chance it could still spread and be bad, but i've heard that the survival rates for stage 1-2 aren't all that bad. In fact, i think i read somewhere that survival rates on stage 1 are like 80-90% :)

I'm still pretty worried and anxious, but learning that was a huge load off my mind... I didn't even know how bad it was before so for all i knew it was stage 3 or 4. & with stomach cancer, survival gets pretty slim that late in :? .

i told her maybe to try eating more fruits since they're supposed to be good for cancer, and iron-rich foods since she sounds like she's having symptoms of anemia.

i wonder how the chemo will affect her :? ....

i mean looks aren't the biggest thing with me so even if she lost her hair temporarily and stuff it wouldn't bother me. In fact, wig-shopping with her might be fun :P .
i could have my head shaved too so she wouldn't be alone on that one.

but yeah, possible hair loss is the only thing i've really heard of clearly associated with chemo; that and nausea . Anyone possibly know what else we might expect :? ?

gastric cancer (ie stomach cancer)
discovered at stage 1, 2... what should I say? things like that rarely ever happens.
when the symptoms of gastric ulcer started to present, it's usually late stage already.
people with gastric ulcer discovered at early stage is usually discovered by routine examination (old people who check their whole body once a year), or examination for other things and discovered it accidentally.
another thing that does not make sense to me.

rarely happens, but not impossible, right?

Well from I read before, she'll have to regular checks throughout her life to see if the cancer comes back. Plus she'll probably have to stick to a special diet for now on. With a smaller stomach, she won't be able to eat as much and her food will probably not be absorbed as well in the intestine so she my have ... poo poo issues. As well probably risking borderline malnutrition. The chemo stuff is going to make her feel sick for a while though. But I'm sure her doctors are already planning for all that now.

Although I know melbi mentions this as strange, I also have to mention that from things from i read about gastric cancer. Your GFs case is rather unsual. This kind is more often found in the elderly, Black and Hispanic, and males. Pretty much the opposite of your girl. Which again makes me wonder, just what has your girl been eating all this time? 8O

Honestly, idk what she's been eating
Prolly not too good of things since she'd been going to college though.
She told me her usual monthly grocery shopping list and it sounded kinda sparse and not all that healthy. She said her food budget was pretty low. Most of her money went towards her rent and stuff. She said she also was eating alot of take-out meals with that. idk, if that's what you meant though.

& honestly i don't think i'll mind any resulting issues she might develop; just something to work through and accommodate for. If borderline malnutrition comes up, there are probably vitamin supplements that can be taken, and probably foods that are naturally easier to digest (i'm assuming you meant not absorbed as well because the stomach wouldn't be able to break the foods down as easily).

either way, intending to try to see this through, i'm no flake

Well, you've mentioned that she has symptoms like anemia, vomitting, dizziness, chest pain etc, right?

possible, but unlikely.

when there's only one thing that's possible but unlikely, it's still possible.
when there are like more than three things that's possible but unlikely... it's not possible anymore Sean.

as far as i know, yeah.
and doesn't mean it's not possible. Improbable maybe, but so are many things in life that still nonetheless happen anyways. It's been my experience that life seldom always go by the book *shrug*.

But either way, i intend to go over there and settle things and find out what's what.
I must ask though...
If it is true, and i were able to bring back some kind of evidence, would you be able to accept it :? ?

Yeah I remember seeing a post there... Something about questions about the true cost of treatment and something.
Guess a mod deleted it for some reason. :?
