When I feel the winds of the African Sahara desert blowing among the minarets of the mosques and the roofs of the churches, rippling the many veils covering the women from each religion, with the sound of the churches bells in the air, the muazzin calling to prayer and the murmur of prayers at the Western Wall, the setting sun famous of Jerusalem that covers all the ancient stone buildings in golden light, the smell of the incense coming up from the Holy Sepulchre and mingling with the exotic smells of the Oriental spices in the Byzantine markets still bustling today........the last thing I want to do is hold eye contact with the tour guide and listen to a lecture!

Greentea... you make me want to travel.

Thank you, zen. And believe me, I just listed simply the components of the atmosphere on any given day on Temple Mount. It's that lovely.

You have one, too?! Yay!

I haven't joined a lot of guided tours but when I have, I certainly look at the building et c they're talking about, not the tour guide him/herself. I don't pay to look at him/her!

Skilpadde, are you the only one or do some others wander around the place too?

At one point, for example, we went into a church where the window panes were yellow-orange, and the sun was strong outside, so the church benches were covered in this yellow-orange-honey light beams, I was in awe at the beauty and taking photos trying to capture the light. I don't think anyone else saw this light at all or noticed it. They were all sitting with their backs to the scene and looking at the guide lecturing all the time.

This is the kind of thing that has always struck me as very odd.

For example, the sky can be full of stars or interesting clouds, and my eyes will be constantly drawn to them. But others will not notice anything until I inform them about it, and then will not look for long. Another example: I used to take the bus and never tired of the views. It would be a struggle not to constantly be swivelling my head and eyes everywhere, yet everyone else would have their heads looking straight ahead. My eyes are always wandering and exploring.

An ex friend of mine used to say that I have an unusual ability to notice and enjoy the little things. She's from Paris, but she can't see anything nice about Paris. 8O She's always looking at her car, her cell phone, her TV, and other people. No surprise it's an ex friend. We had very little in common.

I along with Kaleido agree in that often people tend to overlook things whether it's people or other artifacts shall we say...
