I have two modes of (non-cursive) handwriting:
1- A kind of shorthand for myself to read (reminders, etc.)
2- Writing to communicate to others.

I often have to remind myself when I am writing to others that they have to be able to read it, since I am not in the other mode.

I also have come to form my letters in a way which is quicker than what I was taught. I form the letter "P" from a single stroke, for example. Does anyone else do this?

I also have come to write non-cursive in a similar way that cursive is written. Specifically, I often start the next letter by sliding the pen from where the last letter left off. This is not always possible, but I do it where it is possible, because I can write faster that way. I try to remember to only do this when I am in the mode of writing notes to myself.

My eldest has dysgraphia and his writing is completely illegible. He wasn't able to understand the concept of writing until 8/9 despite having precotious language skills.

Middle son has average-neat writing skills.

Both have AS.

Dat werkt niet. Ik krijg de foutmelding: Couldn't obtain smilies data. Ik zie dat jij .PNG-plaatjes gebruikt, en ik .JPG-plaatjes.

Nee werkt niet. Ik beschouw het als een bug.

Even in het Engels:
I have problems to insert pictures in my post. I get the message "Couldn't obtain smilies", but in the above post (without [img]) I don't have smilies. It seems to work for others, but I think, it is supposed to work always, not sometimes. Maybe an admin can look into it? Or I start a new topic about it in the right forum.

I have terrible handwriting. I also tend to write really small. That's why I prefer typing. Not only is it legible, but I love to type. The only time I bother trying to write neatly is when I'm writing something for other people. If it's just a reminder note for myself, I just use my 'regular' handwriting.

My handwriting is atrocious. To the point where sometimes I can't even read it myself. If I go really slowly it's neat, but being and English student that isn't exactly practical. I used to always get into trouble in school because of it, where teachers accused me of not trying. In fact that probably made me more hostile to working on it. I don't really worry about it any more, tbh.

My handwriting isn't the greatest. My wrist normally gets sore after a couple of minutes of writing and then the letters just start getting kind of messy and unreadable.

I'm surprised that lots of people with messy handwriting are saying they write small. I tend to write big when I 1st start writing something but it gets smaller after I realize I'm running out of space. I have problems writing straight as well; It tends to lean to the side of the page. Paper with lines helps a lot but I have a very hard time writing straight on the line; I tend to go under some & I still write very big. My handwriting is very hard for others to read & I have write very slow & take my time for it to be legible. I sometimes alliterate between printing some letters & writing others in cursive.

I've had lots of problems in school because of it. I did NOT take notes in class because I could not write fast enough or legibly enough to even read em. My hand/wrist would hurt after a few minutes. I HATED writing in discussion answers on test & I also had a very hard time figuring out what I wanted to say in writing so I generally skipped those questions. I procrastinated with English assignments because it would take me much much longer to write things than most others could, I also try to get others to write things down for me instead of doing it myself because I have so many issues with writing. Lots of people accused me of being extremely lazy or manipulative even because I kept trying to avoid doing homework or anything that involved writing. Writing assignments caused me to have lots of meltdowns & eventually I quit trying to do em. The phrase Learned Helplessness really applies here & to lots of things in my life; I should be the poster child for that book & be on Dr.Phil. Avoidance & giving up on something difficult works much much better for me. I'm to easily frustrated

My handwriting is naturally untidy. I spent a lot of time as a child and teenager working on my handwriting, and I got it to become very neat, but it required a great deal of effort, and it was very slow. I don't bother trying to make it so neat now - I'd rather write with speed. When I write private stuff for myself, I generally use block capitals, because I prefer using capitals - I find it easier to write clearly with them, because they are all the same height and depth.

My handwriting style is terrible in fact, I'd say that my use of language and grammar is more laden with error and all.Anyways, I'm always trying to do my best when I write something such as a letter or email,posts,etc..

My reaction to this thread, reading the title, was to say to myself in my head (not too seriously), "Is that possible?". Then the thought (again, not particularly seriously) "Well, I suppose if it's their special interest". I've no idea if my inclination to think aspies would have bad handwriting is correct. Maybe I'm projecting from myself (I'm klutzy -- an aspie trait; figuring bad handwriting is related), or maybe I'm projecting from the aspie-ish people I know.

But, even if it is typical (not a given), that doesn't mean it's universal. And, yeah, I do think, additional, working at good handwriting can work and result in good handwriting.

Nobody can read my handwriting. It's terrible. It's too bad that the only way I can communicate properly is through writing. I used to see a therapist and I had to write stuff down in order to tell her about things of importance. She always said she could read it fine but I think she was lying.

I've been known to write most illustated poems but, at other times my handwriting tends to be messy and uncoordinated..
