I've just seen this thread so here it goes. The creation of any new sub-forum is something entirely up to Alex so I'm afraid I can't help with it.

I would fully support creating a sticky for this topic and I do think it's important for people with a different diagnosis than AS to have a place where they feel more comfortable. The only restriction is to find a sub-forum that doesn't already have a lot of stickies as they would end up taking over the home page.

Would for instance the Members Only forum work for you? Please tell me what you think and I'll talk to the other mods and do our best to find a solution.

I don't understand. There's a lot of effort going into communicating here. Isn't that of any use?

It probably came from a frustration. I am beginning to feel frustrated as well, and it is not even my thread. I don't think the purpose of the thread was for a bombardment from others about the validity of such a thread. The thread should be valid, and if you (you in general, not you specifically) do not see it as valid, then perhaps that person should not bother going onto it. This was supposed to be a place of understanding, not one of constant criticism.

I guess I'm confused because I'm trying to be helpful, not trying to win an argument or any such thing.

I think SuperTrouper makes a great point and that a separate area on the forums should be created for this group.

Aspergers is not a relevant diagnosis for much longer. If you're diagnosed with anything, you have autism. HFA == Aspergers.

It is not going to be HFA=Aspergers, but rather Aspergers, PDDNOS, and autism=ASD. ASD being an umbrella term for everyone now regardless of original label or functioning level.

My brackets with the "you in general, not you specifically" was a reference to the fact that my post is in reponse to the arguement at large, not simply your post.

I'm totally and completely lost and confused.

I wasn't speaking to people in terms of diagnosis (I mean, I know I SAID classic autism, but what I meant was more... not "mild," needing intensive support, etc). That was my mistake. I'm not going to tell anyone who has any label that they are not welcome; I don't play that game. All I wanted was a place where I don't have to weed through a million threads to find ONE that's relevant.

The Members Only forum sounds good.

I knew you didn't mean me specifically. I'm still not sure what happened to this thread.

Seems to be a bit of that going around.

Sorry if I contributed to it.

OK, SuperTrouper here's what I propose: make a thread in the Members Only and explain in your post what you expect/try to offer there. I'll make it a sticky and we'll see how it goes.

Wavefreak, I can't say that you did, for sure (I also can't say that you didn't!). I just have a hard time processing a lot at once, and I walked away all day while staff was here and came back to a zillion replies (or maybe ten or so) since I'd left, and, well, I can't make heads or tails of it all anymore.

Sallamandrina, I made the thread.

I hope this works out. I think I get what you are trying to say, but I also think I might have messed up with communication too. For the record, I wanted to say that I'm not angry at anybody, and I'm not arguing about things. I think I'm just a bit confused. I'm pretty sure I answered some questions that weren't asked and responded to some statements that I misread.

I should know better than to think I can't have communication issues just because I can use written language whenever I want to.

Ah well. I'll mosey on over there now and see if I can make a better try at it this time.

I know what happened to this thread.....

...again, I am not referring to you, but what happened was an uproar (or at least what I perceive as one) over an innocent request for one thread dedicated to members who are not mild. I am completely confused as to why this should be an issue though.

I've probably misinterpreted a lot of what was going on here too...a board full of autistic people is bound to have some communication issues once in awhile. 8O Anyway, for the record to all here, if I sound defensive, I think that is because that is often how I sound in my posts. I really do see the value in one thread such as this though--not to be exclusive to others who do not fit the moderate-severe severity level, but to be more inclusive to those of us who do. Anyway, I am going to bow out of here now! Take care!
