If you think you have autism but don't, you're a loser.

I kind of get what swbluto is talking about with sticking out even amongst the CS geeks. I was also surrounded by science nerd/geek/dorks, and I also didn't fit in with them, not at all, not a bit, nada, zilch, zero. In my case, the explanation is autism. To most NTs, these CS geeks or science nerd/geek/dorks might be considered introverted or socially awkward or weird or boring, but they all fit in with each other just fine, all have NT ToM, and are all much more socially adept than I am. So from my perspective, they are just like any other NTs that I have trouble understanding, even though they would be considered to have lots of autistic traits or even be on the spectrum by other NTs who are more socially adept or mainstream than they are.

I'm sure a good number of self-diagnosed people on WP don't actually have autism.

I'm sure I don't.

When I see posts as these, and especially in lieu of some age, i.e. experience, my spidey sense tells me that theory of mind is at play.

I think some people spend entirely too much time talking about whether (and how many) self-diagnosed posters really have an ASD. Some also seem to spend a lot of time talking about self-diagnosees as if they're trying to "get away with something" which doesn't really make a lot of sense.

Not to say all of them are correct. Obviously that's not always the case, but I think people investigate whether they're autistic because they have reason to suspect something's up. If nothing else, interacting here might help them work out what really is going on.

Your diagnosis says "Not sure if I have it or not".

Dude, if you're really a 24 year old guy with a good job, Friday night is not the time for posting stuff like this online. :D Go do some fun stuff.

I think you missed the part in the first post where I was a loser, lol.

Really, I'm saving money up for next year investments so the fun is going to have to wait. Regardless, I don't have a good idea of what exactly is "fun" for Friday nights other than having educated discussions with you fine people. :) The stereotypical "fun" venues seem kind of pointless to me (bars, dancing, etc.) and the only point I could imagine of those places is trying to get laid and I'm just not that motivated to have one night stands with random bar-hoppers (If I were that motivated to find sex, I'd rather hire a prostitute; so much quicker and less expensive, most likely.). And the other ones really only seem fun with friends and I don't have many of those in my town (I do at the college but that's a city away.).

Mdyar recently came to the conclusion that his problems are better explained with ADHD than AS, if I recall correctly. It appears he didn't change his diagnostic status when he did this.

If in doubt just remember this kiddies, there are a hell of a lot more a**holes in the world than losers ;)

And quite frankly, why should anyone want to get diagnosed by a NT who cannot possibly relate to anything on the spectrum except for a something once read in a book?

If you weren't already aware, the way doctors diagnose anything is to ask YOU what is the problem, I would much rather trust my own judgement than the opinion of someone I do not know, and who does not know me.

I can't tell if that's something an a**hole would say or a loser. :P

Which one says the most vulgar swear word casually like that?

An a**hole? But some autistic people say swear words all the time because they aren't aware of what is and isn't commonly acceptable and they aren't a**holes on purpose. So, maybe it's something a loser would say?

That word is so vulgar it makes the person saying it look bad even though they're usually calling someone else one.

So it's settled, a loser. An a**hole always looks good, which is why they have all the chicks whereas losers always look bad. Or wait, maybe it's that a**holes look bad which makes them look like bad-asses which makes them an automatic chick-magnet? And, losers are just too good to even attract girls. So, maybe it's something an a**hole would say?

swbluto, i am certain that you have been on WrongPlanet long enough now to understand that not everyone understands or appreciates jokes in which they are the target. yes, i understand you targeted yourself too, but nonetheless there is a great deal of potential for misunderstanding here. i also know that you have had some struggles with coming to terms with AS, but i would caution you to be careful not to insult other people in your quest for self-acceptance.

EDIT: also, to a few other people in the thread - please do not call members of WP trolls. if you feel a person is displaying trollish behaviour or that a thread is not appropriate, alert the mods so that we can deal with it. when you resort to accusations and name-calling, you are sinking way down low and it escalates the situation.

Compared to this intentional or unintentional highly motivated perseverance, I really tend to think I do not have that symptom.

Quote:
[The] encompassing preoccupation with one or more stereotyped and restricted patterns of interest that is abnormal either in intensity or focus

If you, swbluto, ever end up being asked about it, consider to mention it was pointed out to you that you have been noted to have grossly abnormal preoccupations with topics that are of interest to you. It's up to a diagnostician and to you to figure out the exact reason for it, of course.

in answer to the original question swbluto...you are a loser!

what kind of features do you have? what do you act like? maybe you should go out to the mall an look for people just like you to find the losers!

maybe you can develop some kind of loser detecting glasses that will point you in the right direction.

a little more explanation into what a loser is....a loser is a person who posts a second topic about an imaginary argument that took place on another thread and then messages the person who supposedly started the argument just to make sure that he was not to blame in this imaginary argument of which he was entirely at fault for making things up that did not exist.

(not calling OP a troll)

ohhhhhhh ok. so there is some history here. that actually makes more sense than the roundabout original post on the thread. i cannot honestly fault you for calling the OP a loser as he called himself a loser and invited others to do so.

OP, if you'd like the thread locked i am perfectly willing to do so.
