Nice and shiny!

But on those rare occasions where your car ends up not so nice and shiny this is what it will look like if disaster strikes. Still much prettier than the Range Rover.

If your battery charger melts down catching the trunk and interior on fire..
Your car may look like this.

If your brakes jam and your car suddenly catches on fire, feel safe knowing the firefighters will be there very soon if you are driving a Jaguar.

I got a fire extinguisher and put it in the trunk on the side opposite of the battery so I'll be prepared.

Make sure your fire extinguisher is secured properly so that it will not get dented and explode.

1994, on the way to registering my car, it started chugging up a long interstate hill. Almost died out a couple of times, then I noticed the paint on the hood bubbling...

You can guess what happened. Five minutes later, flames about fifty feet high and a plume of black smoke three times as high at least. Pretty scary.

Glad you're okay Alex. Damn though! My replacement certainly didn't turn out looking THAT good!

Thanks for WP man!

I think my replacement vehicle is superior to the Range Rover.

I think that's the understatement of the year!

Seriously though, I'm glad you're OK, Alex, and thanks for all you do. In my short time here, I've already learned a lot about AS.

Thanks DJ. I get to drive it without license plates for the first 3 months.

For all the WPers who are wondering why he doesn't have a temp plate, California doesn't issue them. Instead, you get a slip of paper taped in your front window with your name and address on it that acts as a temp registration. People tend to leave the piece of paper in the window for years.

Range Rover: brought to you by Ford, the people responsible for the Flaming Fords of the 80s and 90s, which prompted a 1996 recall that greatly embarrassed the company. Google "Flaming Fords", somewhere on the net is a mirror of the original Flaming Fords info site. The Fords affected tended to be passenger cars and the Ranger compact pickup. Ford cars of that era tended to have the automatic transmissions commit suicide on their owners at about 90k miles. Frequently, the cost to rebuild was more than the car was worth. Fun times in the rust belt.

This site has really helped me to understand myself. I started researching autism spectrum disorders several months ago when a coworker (who volunteers with children on the spectrum) mentioned a couple similarities she noticed between me and the kids with whom she works. I always felt I was "different", and I had a lot of trouble making and keeping friends until about age 15. I also had (and continue to have) other behaviours that I now know are common in ASDs, but are not generally considered normal. Luckily I did very well in school and wasn't completely socially awkward - I was just "that weird kid". However, for many years I felt that being different from mostly everyone else was a deficiency on my part, and that I was inadequate as a person.

This was one of the first websites I visited when I started researching autism, and it was incredibly helpful to read through the blogs and forum posts. I identified so many similarities between me and others posting on this site. Learning about autism through conversations with people who have been diagnosed (formally or not) helped me to recognise that I very likely have an autism spectrum disorder (I am not seeking a formal diagnosis for several uninteresting reasons).

I still feel like an alien, but with WP, I am better at being proud of the positive aspects, and at understanding and handling the negative aspects.

Thank you, Alex, and I'm so glad to hear that you are okay.

Jeremy Clarkson: Rover is rubbish. It's rubbish.

If we also got an Alfa and a Jag we'd complete the unreliability trifecta.

I'm glad you are okay. My car started smoking on a freeway once. It didn't burn down. A tow later and an expensive repair, and I'm still driving it.
