Although thare are zilions of theories about some famous scientist having autism, in the reaaly diagnosed autistic people, seem to be more famous artists than famous scientists:

It's conjecture that anyone is autistic. No one here has scientific proof that they're autistic, only conjecture from a psychologist. As for Einstein being autistic; he learned to talk very late. That suggests he was either stupid or autistic and I don't think Einstein was stupid. Richard Feynman is another late talker who went on to achieve mathematical genius.

I know a handful of people who are diagnosed with ADHD and who are not autistic who were late talkers. Being a late talker is common to autism, but not restricted to autism. Also, I do not think being a late talker is reflective of intelligence at all, but reflective of a child's development. Speech can be delayed but the child can be otherwise typical.

Your argument that "It's conjecture that anyone is autistic" has no relevance. At least with people who have been diagnosed (or even self-diagnosed) you have a degree of observation and familiarity, and the diagnosis is testable.

Speaking of testable, "scientific proof" is a severe misnomer. What you have is scientific evidence. The difference is that evidence is testable and later evidence can alter the conclusions earlier evidence has drawn. Since autistic diagnoses occur the same way as gathering scientific evidence - by observation and recording of data - trying to draw a dichotomy between being diagnosed and having scientific proof is factually wrong.

Bill Gates has been officially dx'd

Could you point to a reference? All I can find is that the press likes to diagnose him.

You have a degree of observation and familiarity with gates and Einstein too. Entire books have been written about these men and dozens of interviews are on the public record.

Call me schizophrenic then because I'm a Christian. I also like to create art, write science fiction and I love science.

OP, you saying Einstein spoke late means he is either autistic or stupid just shows your ignorance and speaking like that will not help your argument, which is strongly lacking in facts which you so love to cleave to.

This thread bores me so I'm leaving.

Was he diagnosed with it? The delusions and hallucinations he had were the basis for his schizophrenia diagnosis.

Nothing official, I know of, while the author from this Psychology Today article linked below states there is incontrovertible evidence, he is talking about a time in Nash's life, when high functioning autism was not known to exist, before he experienced psychosis in adulthood.

He talks like it's an accepted fact, but I haven't been able to find the incontrovertible evidence that he is talking about. I'm guessing that it was determined by someone who read his bio.

You might be interested in reading the article, the guy that wrote the book has an interesting theory, related to autism and psychosis.

At first sight, the diametric model seems to rule out anyone being autistic and psychotic at the same time, yet the case of John Nash provides incontrovertible evidence of high-functioning autism in his youth but severe psychotic illness in adulthood.

I would give this more credit if there was evidence that Nash was actually personally involved in the analysis, since he is still alive, but I can't find any evidence of that.

Quote:
In the general population, the theory definitely predicts low co-morbidity rates for ASD and PSD, but it does not exclude the possibility that in exceptional cases both could occur and might account for the genius of people like Nash, Newton, or Beethoven. The theory also makes the counter-intuitive and completely testable prediction that in such cases an autistic phase should precede the later psychotic episode to produce a composite of autistic and psychotic savantism whose breadth, inclusiveness, and rarity would account for what most people would see as true genius.

The problem with this theory is that evolution (first, autistic symptoms, and, some years later, psychotic symptoms) is the usually evolution of schizophrenia (first, negative symptoms, later positive symptoms); then, what Badcock calls "co-morbity of ASD and PSD" could simply be... schizophrenia.

It seems I was misled, but my old psychiatrist says he definitely has it and she doesn't seem to be the only one.

I think Feynman is ruled out of the spectrum in so far as meeting a significant social impairment.

It's possible Broader Autism Phenotypes could cover these people, as it does many a scientist.

Or they just spoke late, and it didn't really mean anything:

http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/ ... ekey=52130

And this book talks about it:

http://www.amazon.com/Einstein-Syndrome ... 0465081401

Said book also firmly establishes that late speech is not directly linked to intelligence.

I spoke really early - my first words were a full sentence of 8 words at 11 months. I'm not sure whether that is a sign of giftedness or anything else, as I have a lot of problems with speech and have all my life (but my mother tends to dismiss them because I started speaking complete sentences before I was a year old! I suspect that rapid development can cause problems as well as late development).

'Opposite' doesn't mean anything useful psychologically, it probably just means you've become overattached to a particular model.

I always related to John Nash, or at least the way he worked out Game Theory as shown in the film.

Game Theory is a load anyway as far as I know, since it assumes homo economicus - a model of human behavior that is just totally bunk.

But don't quote me on that, I'm no expert and no mathamatician.

It's true, people aren't rational, but Nash says you can use a strategy where everyone else's irrationality is only hurting themselves. I think it's divine.
