Guess who's black?

ME! :D

It's not like my username wasn't a clue as to that. RASTAking. I have an admiration for the Rastafarian (popularly known as "Rasta") religion, but I am not a Rastafarian myself. Also notice the Barbados flag I have... saluting my heritage.

Well, at the risk of compromising my reputation as one of WrongPlanet's leading intellectual minds, I feel compelled to render a one-word response; to wit:

DUH!

Oh ok, now that you're black all of the bigoted ignorant things you said aren't bigoted and ignorant to me. You're a real piece of...work.

Excuse me if this has already been mentioned, but maybe some of this apparent hatred of intellect we notice is simply their expression of frustration whenever they try to reach us emotionally and we respond on the intellectual level? If you're fishing for a heart and all you get is a cerebellum, you could feel quite negative about intellect for a while.

People tend to 'hate' intellectuals because an intellectual is more likely to perceive a lie or reveal someone else's ignorance.

For instance, someone once told me that there can be no DNA in our cells because DNA is acidic and acid dissolves flesh.

I pointed out to him that if that were the case, he would have no mouth or stomach because both saliva and stomach fluids are acidic.

He called me a spawn of Satan and has refused to speak to me ever since.

Good riddance.

Comfortably numb. Yeah, comfortably numb. I may be a bit warped in the humor department, as this should "make a grown man cry," but:

It's one thing to espouse something ignorant; but another if one has the motivation or the 'emotion' to not check their own belief systems. It must feel good to these people to "prefer" to stand where they are.

My bone to pick is this: Why are these "people" incapable of a self- correction insofar as a motivation to 'check' what they know and don't know? Why are their hearts unreceptive in this regard? A biological brother in the same set of circumstances, can make a different choice.

My conclusion: One is past a certain sense here, as one idea is as good as the next one. There are no immediate consequences, and here is where knowledge plays out: If one could plot a trajectory, then the sense of it should compel or propel them to move it on in a different direction.

Emotions are central to any value.

Last time I was in Hong Kong I was looking for stuff to bring back to sell on ebay. I saw some handbags from a distance that I recognized as Gucci from the markings. When I examined the print I noticed it said "Cucci". I don't know why I'm telling you this. I guess your avatar just reminded me of Honk Kong.

I find pseudo-intellectualism "offensive," especially when it comes dressed-up as nitpicking silly subjective things like "culture {which have no objective, universal standard)," in an attempt to pretend to be an "intellectual."

Not having a particularly good grasp of either anthropology or linguistics doesn't strike me as terribly "intellectual."

Let me translate her post for you rastaking- Stop trying to be an 'intellectual' you are failing badly.

Your problems with linguistics are secondary, focus on not coming across as a douchebag 1st.

P.S. Your use of the name rastaking is offensive. You're about as Rasta as kim jung il.

Sometimes, when self-styled intellectuals use condescension against those they feel are lesser beings, it gives a bad rep to intellectuals everywhere.
