Ketamine is a core medicine in the World Health Organization's "Essential Drugs List", a list of minimum medical needs for a basic healthcare system.

BDSM is all about pleasure between consenting adults. I used to like watching boxing matches too. If I agree that a Dr can give me an injetion that may 'hurt' me then that's ok I've agreed to be hurt, I'm hurting myself by proxy.
being forcefully injected is a different matter I don't agree with fox hunting or fighting in the street.

You're being a bit disingenuous here. BDSM is all about one partner taking pleasure from inflicting pain on the other partner, who enjoys the pain ie it's about taking pleasure from pain.

if it where about pain you wouldn't have a safety word for when the pain get's too much... also any pain is fairly short lived the pain is mealy a vector. if it where about pain your partner would be breaking your legs and hang drawing and quartering you. You would expect to get some short lived pain from a trip to the gym even after being given instructions from a trainer... you would not however expect to get extraneous or lasting pain based on the instructions of the trainer.

pain is involved but it's not about hurting someone else beyond what they have consented to... the consent is equivalent to hurting yourself by proxy.

saying BDSM is about pain is a little like saying riding a bike is about rubber because the tyres are made of rubber and you need them to ride a bike. Some people who are into BDSM like to dress up as babies and get bottle fed for instance.

if someone where to say for instance "Ow! You're hurting me!" as given in the usage of hurt they'd probably want to stop the BDSM session.

you certainly don't intend to cause injury or harm, damage, wound (except in a very minor way), offend or detriment them.
