If where more sensitive to our environment with anxiety wouldn't it be safe to assume we would be more sensitive with our tastebuds?

Here is the problem with trying to find a pattern. All autistic people are different some are sensitive to taste of liquid, some are sensitive to the texture of a liquid, some aren't sensitive to taste or texture at all, and the more extreme cases some might even see colors or hear sounds as they drink their beverages. Also most autistic people are highly routine orientated so some stick with whatever they had access to growing up that wasn't offensive to them.

I for one am very sensitive to the taste of water. I can tell the difference between the water in this house and the one next door. Most house tap water seems to have a really strong metallic or dirt taste. Britta and bottled waters have less taste but the taste is still there. There are a few drinking fountains that I have run across that seemed like clean water. However, I have also ran across a drinking fountain that had a hint of urine taste.

I thought everyone else was crazy for not being able to taste the differences in water they all claim water has no taste. Since I am recently unofficially diagnosed (girlfriend who works with disabled people spotted it so I took several online tests and came up positive for autism on all of them) the reading I have done about autism sheds some light on things like being able to taste water.

My beverage of choice is Coke.
My alcoholic beverage of choice is Smirnoff vodka other brands taste like rubbing alcohol.

It's interesting to hear you say this. My grandmother, who people have been writing off as nuts for years (even before the dementia set in), I actually think she might be on the spectrum, too. And she's like you because she doesn't drink water because she doesn't like the taste. Yet the rest of us, myself included, can't tell the difference.

This is why I love WP. I am not insane. If someone I don't even know who lives god knows where has exactly the same experience with taste of water as myself than I cannot be insane, right!?

I can tell differences between bottled waters. I drink only bottled water and I can tell the difference. I can taste the metalic taste of the cheap bottled waters which are just filtered tap water as opposed to spring waters which have various mineral compositions that give them all their unique flavour. I have been fortunate to have tasted proper spring waters from real clean springs and the difference is amazing. Pure water is the best thing in the world. Seen as I live in the UK however, I tend to drink appalling amounts of coffee. Also green tea and all manner of herbal teas. Coconut water and Lucozade sport lite for those days when extra hydration is needed.

i like milk (probably drink too much of it and need to cut down a little), fruit juices of all kinds, soft drinks of all kinds.

i dont mind coffee but i dont really find myself drinking it that often.

Alcohol and i dont think i drink more than a handful of beers per year.

Erm, not really a water fan but it tastes ok sometimes, with the right food.

I dont really drink anything unless it's with a meal washing the food down. Most things taste weird if theyre not being offset by the taste of the food im eating. I have to be pretty thirsty to just drink on its own. It's probably a convenience thing, drink with food and its two birds with one stone, drink on its own and i clean forget about the drink.

I can also tell the difference between bottled waters.

I actually love water. I drink out of the tap at home, literally I just stick my face in the sink. But not all water. Irony water of course is the worst.

I'm really picky with eating and drinking. I can honestly name the things that I drink exclusively on one hand. Sierra Mist, chocolate milk, orange juice, and water.

My NT husband can't stand carbonated drinks.
I generally will eat foods and drinks of all flavors and textures. I don't like eating sweet things too fast though, like fudge or caramel. I love these 'foods', but too much of them in my mouth will make my eyes water and I'll get this tingly feeling in my mouth. On the other hand, both my dad and sister adore that feeling when they're eating something sweet.

I just want to point out that I like the phrase "irony water", as if it were expected to be something other than water.

Donno how people can drink beer. The few times I had it, I was just put off by the taste. Why do people drink this stuff?
