I'm going to have to disagree with the "babies are cute" concept. While babies can look cute at times, the constant neediness and the crying (especially the crying) far outweigh the cuteness factor. In fact, when I was between ages 10 and 16, I was scared to death of my parents having a third kid, although it was more paranoia than a rational fear. (My older sister would not be affected, as she already moved out by then, and also she was my parents' favorite.) I was treated like the pariah of the family as it is, constantly having to work for my parents' love, with high marks in school and good behavior at home (both of which felt like kissing ass). With a baby being born, I would have to work harder to get the same amount of love, and be treated worse, as my parents would view me as a burden that keeps them from paying attention to the new baby. I had a detailed suicide plan in place (at age 11
), in preparation for that possibility. Fortunately in a way, I was saved by some economic hardships that my family ended up going through, so the plan to have a third kid never materialized. By the time things improved financially, my parents changed their mind. I still don't know if I should be bitter or thankful for those economic problems. I had to come to school dressed like a dork, but it kept my parents from having a baby.
