Well, I'm familiar with the entire Classical tradition, but I've gotten to the point now where I can only listen to Bach. However, right now I'm at a place in my life where I just need quiet, and I try not to listen to any music at all. Music just affects me too much, and it makes my brain lose track of reality and of myself.

I listen to cosmic background radiation when out in public. It is calming and predictable and has saved me from many meltdowns. Music is too stressful and unpredictable.

WOW!! ! That sounds like something I'd like!
What exactly do you listen to? Where do you get it?
Ever since I was a kid, I've been obsessed with harmonising notes/chords and resonance.
I listen to 'Stars Of The Lid' (genre == Drone) - Songs 'The Artificial Pine Arch Song' & 'Music For Nitrous Oxide' are among my favourites.
A lot of the stuff I like contains some background radiation sounds. I also like some static.
I find it all very calming and also listen to it not just out in public but I use it to relax at home.

I can't take all that 3 degree Kelvin background radiation stuff -- sounds like really bad Yanni to me. I do appreciate the Pleiades -- they have nice cosmic voices. But I have learned to create a synesthetic vacuum around my entire body so that I can experience absolute quiet.

You don't suffer from tinnitus in absolute silence? I downloaded the DecibelMeter app to see how quiet an environment I could find/make around the house but then the tinnitus ruined that.

In all seriousness, I can hear the high pitch of the electricity running through the house or my office all the time, so I don't experience absolute quiet. But it's good enough. And I don't have tinnitus. Do you? I hope not.

Go on Google and look up "cosmic white noise." The first video option that appears ("Celestial White Noise" lol) is what I listen to when I need to be able to filter out everything around me. It sounds a bit like echoey static. (Also, I understand about static: my friends make fun of me because I like to search through the radio channels for it.)
The second thing I listen to - when I just need something calming but not necessarily something to relax my senses completely - is called "Symphonies of the Planets." This one is my favorite to listen to while studying.
I hope this helps.

Thank You So Much Aria
Oh my God. That's uncanny. I have been known to listen to radio static in the past. It's GOT to be an Aspie thing.
Once again, thank you

Tinnitus drives me nuts! It's gotten so bad that nothing drowns it out. I can hear it over the TV, the ceiling fan, even the car engine. The only thing that seems to relieve it is to get involved in something that takes my mind off it.
I love most genres of music, and used to blow out the speakers in the car. But these days, I prefer to ride in silence. When I go for walks, I don't bring headphones. I want to hear the music of nature -- the birds, the wind, the water. If it wasn't for the damn tinnitus...

FYI Don't know if you're aware of this or not but some medications can make it worse. Aspirin is a known antagonist of tinnitus symptoms.

Cosmic background radiation? Elaborate.

I do it too. NTs who see it find it really weird, but I think here are people who understand such things...

Absolutely! You're not alone. We're all part of the same clan

Yep. I like to complicate things. I could call it "static," or "microwaves from space," but "cosmic background radiation" is just so fun to say!
