Do you think people with ADHD are NT?
I am sorry, I did not mean to hurt anyone's feelings, but I also have a very honest question.
I was wondering if you can have a developmental disorder without need for a diagnosis anymore, as long as you have old medical and school histories that stated that you had some form of developmental delay, even if you decided for yourself that you don't need that diagnosis anymore.
I used to have low IQ, server communication delays, lack of social skills, speech delay, severe case of Prosopagnosia, psychosis, sensory issues and self-injury behaviors from my early childhood.
I used to have a speech therapist to improve my speech, now I don't need that help anymore.
So my question is, why do I need a diagnosis for speech delay, if I don't need a speech therapist anymore?
I used severe communication delays, lack of social skills, speech delay, severe case of Prosopagnosia, psychosis, sensory issues and self-injury behaviors from my early childhood and I improved a lot by receiving therapy.
Since I have social skills and my symptoms of ASD got improved, what is the point of Autism diagnosis?
If I decide that I no longer need help with some of my symptoms of ASD, can I get a second opinion to remove my ASD diagnosis and get another diagnosis for something that I need help now?
The only thing that I need help with is my restricted interests, sensory issues and learning disorders.
I don't need help with social skills anymore compared to my childhood.
Because I feel like I am using the services that I don’t need now compare to my childhood and I feel like I am using the services that people with severe to profound Autism need the most.
So I think it would be useful to provide some historic perspective to this perception that ADHD is overdiagnosed and that people with "real" ADHD are not being given adequate support or care as their symptoms are really quite unmanageable.
In schools children with oppositional behaviour are often suspended for doing things that involve hitting teachers, other students or breaking equipment etc. This happened to my daughter who was taking out her frustrations over sensory issues when she was in lower primary school.
The school was already aware she had autism so we took her to our pediatrician who also said she "may" have comorbid ADHD to explain her outbursts, hitting kids, throwing furniture and walking out of class (I thought it was more to do with her sensory issues). We discussed this with the school and they recommended we talk to our doctor about medication. It was left unsaid by basically without medication she would be spending a lot of her early school time suspended. So began her journey on the Ritalin train (we only took of Ritalin this year after 8 years). We never thought the medication addressed her sensory issues which she eventually learned to cope with.
This isn't unique, plenty of kids with oppositional behavior are diagnosed with ADHD. In the state of Virginia in the US 33% of boys are diagnosed with ADHD (that must be a world record) yet the true rate is closer to only 5%. Why are doctors over-diagnosing these kids? a lot of it has to do with schools putting pressure on parents to get a diagnosis to get them medicated and doctors unethically finding reason to prescribe giving business to pharma who provide kickbacks to the doctors.

I think that ADHD people could definitely qualify as neurodiverse but like its' weird cause like adhd can range frmo so may thinsg like adhd can be as simple as trouble focusing or a huge overlappig thig that affects your entire life. And I think like some people who are more toward the far end where it's simple as lack of ability to concentrate are more towards nt if you get what i'm saying i don't think nt is as simple as being it ro not i think it's a bit more complicated than that.

That is interesting. The article does state the unit of analysis is the school district, so it is not a state average. I wonder if socioeconomic status correlates: Virginia does have large discrepancies, which I imagine will be seen in districts. But the 5% prevalence does seem low. The CDC puts diagnosis of children with ADHD at 11%, 15% for boys and 7% for girls.

No feelings hurt. These are difficult questions you are asking. I am just answering as honestly as I can, but I am not offended in anyway.
As far as your question. You can ask to be re-diagnosed. I think for people that had a diagnosis at an early age, it is not a bad idea as abilities are not fixed. Especially if you think this important for pursuing career goals. I would ask your doctor.
