I used to play too roughly with my cats, when I was about thirteen. But they usually let me know when enough was enough, and I bore the scratches on my arms to prove it. Now, I love to tease my cat by gently poking her. She will protest in annoyance, and I will imitate her. We go back and forth like that, until her tail starts to whip back and forth rapidly. Then I back off. We play hide and go seek, with a string, and she loves to stalk and then pounce on my hand while its moving under a blanket.

Teasing them is OK I think, they playfight all the time. It helps me be accepted as "one of them", I find.

When I was younger, perhaps a year after my mom died (I was perhaps 11), I was rather cruel to a dog. I pulled on it's ears and I think I kicked her a few times. ... This isn't, obviously, the type of thing I am proud of looking back on my life. It's very much not in the character of what I am today. I suppose you have to forgive yourself for your past decisions.

When I was a little kid I also took fish out of the bowl to watch it flip around  .

My younger brother was much worse with animals, when a child. He would take the type pf clothes pegs that closed with a spring, and attach them to the cat, and then howl with laughter while she raced frantically around, in pain. He had severe autism, and obviously a severe lack of empathy when it came to animals. Of course I had to rescue her, and get all the scratches.

Sometimes I put Cow Kitty in the chair and spin the chair around to make her dizzy, I quit doing that though because once she jumped out of the chair while I was spinning it and now I'm afraid she could do it again and get hurt.

I tortured a miniature Schnauzer when I was 16. I squeezed him, kicked his cage around when he was in it, pounded on his cage, and threw him outside literally.

I've thrown cats before, not to be mean but out of necessity. They are so flexible and fast though that being thrown really isn't too dangerous for them. I would never do it if I thought they could get hurt.

That's horrible. Instead of venting your frustration on your pet, assert yourself in social contexts more.

The only kinda thing I do to animals that's bad for them is I like to destroy anthills. And, if there's a hose in sight flood that ants out.

I was taught at a Catholic School who taught us that "animals do not have souls" so I thought it is OK to do that. If fact stacks of kids used to put fire crackers in the ants nests and blow them to smithereens.
In fact I was taught "a cat squeeling when you stand on its tail does not feel pain because it does not have a soul. It only squeels like a machine squeels if it is not oiled, and a machine cannot feel pain because it does not have a soul"

What nonsense they used to teach up in those days and I was gullible enough to believe it.

I hope the people that taught you that go and have a car crash together.

The Schnauzer was evil.

I once dropped one of my cat's out the window of an old farm house when I was 13. I have put my brother's cat in my brother's toy truck, threw my Calico cat down the stairs when i was 10, I used to pull cats' tails when I was a little girl thinking that's what tails were for. *****

I don't believe people that say they tortured animals but then "oh well i didn't mean to". When you say that you're obviously in denial and can't be trusted for obvious reasons. 1. Why would you do it in the first place? It brought you some sick sense of pleasure because you knew it was harming something. That's when I think you need to admit to yourself you need to accept some serious therapy from an outside source. Quite frankly, bullies are the reason my life is hard to deal with. I'm self-satisfied in my own mind, it's the people that impose themselves on my life that make life so uncertain and traumatic. If there were no people that imposed themselves on others (including animals because yes, people are animals) then autism wouldn't be so hard to have. Personally, I like to have control over MY situation and treat others how I would like to be treated out of general principle. That means, I don't impose myself on others and when somebody imposes themselves on me I get defensive because I think it's irrational behavior to begin with. It's people letting their emotions take over their mind and therefore they need serious therapy to stop doing that if they can't manage to rationalize their own way out of that behavior. Also, I understand some kids were abused by others and maybe feel that justifies them abusing someone else. That's irrational so again I think you need proper therapy.

I thought I was the only person who did this.I could spend hours after a rainy day pulling worms out of puddles and picking bugs out of the swimming pool and laying them on the edge to dry out. When I was in third grade I once tried to fight a boy because he was stepping on ant hills.About the same age I accidentally killed a bug that I thought was "stuck" in a tree.I pulled on it and it came apart....oops.I found out later, reading about insects, that it had been laying eggs. Now I try and be careful about playing "god".I have carried a lot of bugs outside my apartments through the years.....but will kill ticks, fleas, roaches, misquettos, maggots, flies and even ants in my apartment.I dont like sharing space with these critters so I am not a great Buddhist.

Torturing animals....nope.But I once shock my cat when he smelled a female in heat and wouldnt stop meowing to go out...for hours.....had a little melt down which I still feel bad about.Had another cat go into heat and put her in the closet untill the next day when I got her in to get spayed.....trigger seems to be the constant noise.Dont think I could survive a "barky/yappy" dog.

I strongly object to any kind of animal abuse...and I tend to be nicer to animals than people.

My regret is not that I ever hurt an animal, I never have, but I have twice (when younger) seriously hurt people who hurt animals. I almost killed one guy who killed one of my cats. I deeply regret this now and am ashamed to admit it. Now I feel NO LIVING CREATURE should be hurt intentionally -ever, and people who torture or abuse animals or other people should be punished for it but within the confines of reason and the law.

And I too hate hearing stories of animal torture or abuse.

I had a (very psychotic) ex who used to do the same things, as an adult. She was so sweet to any animals, but shared my hatred of humanity.
