Well I just finished my first week of work at swagelok. I worked there last summer and I know a lot of people there, and I was quite worried that this might cause a major stressor for me, but so far it has been pleasant, probably b/c I left there after 2 months, before things started to go sour (as they did in my last job). The managers are by and large reasonable and accepting of me, but I am worried about the one i report too, as I can already sense some stress in my relationship with him. Right now I am in maintance, and they farm me out to the other departments in the factory, which means something different every day, and failing if anyone needs me, then I clean with the maintaince crew as they change the cutting oil in the machines. I don't like this part at all b/c of the smell of cutting oil and degreasant. I am getting better at cleaning and letting my mind slip into an autopilot/la-la land which is good as it reduces the odds that I will go insane from boredom.
Today was esp. good b/c I was able to slip into a zen-like state after doing a lot of extremely physical work (my personal preference is for that kind) and the noise of the factory just slipped into white noise and the direct lines of the machinery/layout really, really stimulated my mind as I walked throughout the factory which was great.
