I don't want to be cured of AS but it would be nice to be cured of depression or at least have it reduced by 50% or so.

I have learned that there is actually absolutely NOTHING wrong with the rules ot the NT world. It's just that NTs don't follow them either, so we get confused about what they are.

I'm only be baffled by NTs interrupting if I had been told that interruption is poor manners. Problems happen when individual people decide to forget why certain rules are there, so they follow their own in their head(which is why those unwritten rules are not written down anywhere).

"No there is not! ArrG! I am a flipping pirate! Mooo! Gnu pie with baby sauce! You moo! Treebeard fights hobbit in tai-kwando! Hobo gigantes! Growl! King me hobbit! And steal Hue Hefner's wife!"
Impression of what I would constantly say if I was a ruder jerk. Oh well. That is what I probably would not say.

I'm ashamed to say that right now, I would. When
I first came to this site I felt full of pride at having
AS. When I went to the UK meetup and got to know
the people on this site, I really felt part of a community,
and happy to be who I was. But now for some reason
I just want the chance to be normal, just to see what
it's like and if its easier.

Hmmmm? When was this meetup? and who was there?
........And thanks for your support in the Sean/suicide
topic, It was greatly appreciated!! !! !! !! :D :D :D

Ghosthunter

It was a meetup in my homwtown of Coventry for people with AS. It was organized by the website aspietalk.co.uk. I met a lot of aspies on the day, but no-one who posts here, It was great fun.

Whether AS is a gift or a curse seems to depend on the people around you. Therefore it can be a gift and a curse at different respective points in your life.

True. But the problem in my case is that no girl will go out with me. :( :( :( :(

I don't think I'd take the cure because I'm proud to be me!

Any attempt to give me a cure would end in a standoff with a SWAT team! 8)

It's great that you all feel that way... I feel more happy with my AS at the moment as well. Maybe I could reject the hypothetical "cure"!

I love my AS. I just wish more people will accept me and leave me in peace.

I used to wish for people to accept me but I realized that I couldn't control whether they liked me or not. I'm also a black woman living in a country that finally recognized black people as full citizens little more than 40 years ago.

So in addition to being an outcast for my aspie traits, there's also racism to deal with. It would be as ridiculous to lighten my skin as it would to change my aspie-ness to get people to accept me. People's attitudes toward those who are different need changing, not my AS.

Yeah, I guess you have to just find the people who accept you and be yourself huh
